Question about Panasonic DMR-EX85EB-S DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

Sudden formatting disc problems

This had been working fine. Using DVD+RW to copy from hard disk. Putting them into other machines in the house and watching. Also, copying with other machines in the house and then watching them on the EX85. 2 days ago, copied material on discs accepted before on EX85 suddenly say unformatted disc...format disc now? I hit the yes button and the disc formats and tells me it is complete, I press copy and it says the disc is unformatted! even though it has just told me it has completed formatting. Also, brand new, out of the packet DVD+RW discs are coming up as unformatted, and again it goes through the motion of formatting but does not appear to do anything. So, new discs and discs that it has accepted time and time again will now not play

Hi there, thank you for your advice. There is nothing in the instructions on how to do a hard reset. I have turned all of the power off and back on again, but I don't think that this is what you mean. Can you advise me? thank you

ya what you said is the hard reset only.
turn off the power and leave the system for few hours and then again switch it ON..

if this is not working then there is no other go. you will have to move it to a service center

but not to any service center

    only a authorized service center

    thank you sir

    good luck

    have a good day

    happy fixya!!!!!

When I insert a blank DVD+R to copy a VHS, It reads the disk, says "Unknown Disk" and ejects it. How do I record if I can't keep a disk in the machine?

some discs don't work in some recorders. I always use verbatim, ritek or tdk discs and have very few problems. if the recorder suddenly dislikes a batch of one brand, I'll use one of the others.

WILL NOT RECORD MESSAGE E 24 COMES UP DISCS DVD R AND DVD RW TRIED . LEANS CLEANER USED .PLAY BACK WORKS OK.

Hi
This player can only record on -R / - RW disks.
It could be that you are using +R / +RW disks.
Also disks need to be formatted in machine before they work.

Lg dvd rw recording problems

Hi

You might like to know that this recorder works well with DVD+R, DVD-R and DVD-RW but is known to not work well with DVD+RW. This is likely to be the main cause of your problem if you experience these problems and find it happens mostly with DVD+RW.

If the problem occurs across all formats a DVD cleaning disk should help the problem.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Thanks.

jamesgranger - I think your DVD recorder is still having trouble reading the DVD+RW. It should not have a problem using a DVD+RW many times. Try taking the DVD+RW and put it in your computer. Find it in Explorer, right-click and choose "Erase". Then try to record to it using the DVD recorder again. If it works, you can use this to record, though it might be a pain.

The fact that your machine will record to the +R means that it works. Failing to work (record or erase) on the +RW means it's not reading it well. I would try running the lens cleaner again if it were mine. Also, I would make sure that the unit didn't have a lot of dust in it. If you can, power it off and use some spray-air to be sure there's no dust. You may have cleaned the lens, but if there's a lot of dust inside the unit, it will quickly find it's way back to the lens and you'll have the same problem. Michael

Trouble with DVD+RW Disks being compatiable or staying formatted

cos they are cheap - get some decent branded discs such as TDK or tayo yuden and it should be fine

Also check the manual and or requirements on there website and it should show which are the best discs to use for that player but TDK or tayo yuden should be fine.

www.svp.co.uk or any where you can buy discs from should be fine

Dirty Disk Problem with DVD+R Disks on SONY RDR-GX300?

I have used my Sony GX300 for a couple of years and love it. I prefer +R blanks. The only occasional problem is the media brand. It will not record Fuji 16X, but will record Fuji 4X, which are rare nowadays. I have used TDK 16X with success, but this week bought TDK "lightscribe" blanks, and the GX300 would not record with them.

Sony should provide an upgrade download for the GX300 but does not. On the internet I have been unable to find a list of suitable brands for this DVD recorder, so I have to take risks when shopping. Fortunately, all blanks can be used for my computer so my money is not really wasted.

It's October, 2009 and in Toronto there has been a shortage of DVD blanks for months. I've been told there will be lots available in December.

Cannot play this disc

The DVD-R130 can only record to DVD-R and DVD-RW disks - it cannot identify blank DVD+R and DVD+RW disks. For recorded DVD disks, the player will play finalised DVD+R/+RW disks without any problem.
