Came home after a weekend away and central heating not working. Programmer not turning heating on (honeywell st6400c) but the boiler (a sentima ht 60l) looks like it has a fault. The mains light us on but...

Possible cause of lockout: boiler low water level. If you have a combination temperature/pressure gauge, it should read approximately 12 psi when the boiler is cold. When it runs, it will be approximately 22 psi. If the pressure is low feel the inlet water supply piping. Open the manual feeder valve. The cold water coming in will verify that there is no obstruction to the water flow. You may have "dirt" in the line. You may have a defective water pressure valve or check valve. Another thought. Make sure your AIR SEPARATOR is functional. Remove the cap and depress the valve. You should see water. If air comes out, continue to"bleed" the AIR SEPARATOR. You may haven't to replace the A/S.

My central heating does not go very warm

There is an over temperature thermostate in the heating system and it is most likely defective.

I have Drayton Heating System in new home. I seem to be unable to put my central heating on without also having the water heater on. The boiler will come on if the water heating and central heating is on...

you will only be able to have the central heating on seperately if the system is fully pumped. Why would you not want the water to heat? it is more cost effective to use the residual heat to heat the water and keep the temperature up. Costs alot more to heat a cold house and a cold water tank

St6400c thermostat wont run the central heating independantly

This does not sound like a thermostat problem. I would be looking for a zone valve or circulator pump problem.

Honeywell ST6400C programmer doesn't switch off

Since you have three on/off timing modes could there be an overlap in the times?
The wires in the unit might be crossed. (don't always assume the contractor who wired maintained the correct colors , I have a friend who blew out a heating pipe because when a replacement motor valve was installed it was never wired right and the plumber assumed the colors were correct so no overtemp shutoff created steam in PVC pipes, OPPS)
There fore maybe one is still coming on. Do you have more than one heating zone? IF so see below

I guess the main question is why manually turn it off? why not use the program.

I will assume your heat is know as forced hot water heating. My house is multizoned however when the zone calling for heat turns off (zone valve closes) I installed a bypass valve in the lowest zone in the house, and reduced the circulator low shut off temp to 130 F which means even though the heat isn't on my circulator will continue to run dumping this excess heat in the lowest part of house to rise through house. (the spring loaded water valve allows the heated water to flow into this zone )We do have two thermistats. And even though the lowest one is not calling for heat the radiators are hot when the excess is dumped into this zone. So investigate and see if your system might be similar. (multizone).

Investigate your wiring, reprogram, replace any battery backup.
