Question about Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Sound Card

1 Answer

No midi out device is detected

I have an Audigy Creative Sound Blaster installed in my computer. I can play MIDI files with any other supported player. However, when I run the Rhythmania a creative software bundled with SB Live CD, I got this message "No Midi out device is detected". What seems to be the problem.

Ok. I understand what you mean. Now, can you please help me where can I find this option to change the patch from "midi out" to the card's synth engine or whatever. For sure I cannot change it inside Rhythmania because when opening the Rhythmania the first thing that tells me is this message "No midi out device detected" and when you click "Ok" it ends the program. I tried all possible options from the Control Panel / Sound and Audio Devices Properties / Midi Music Playback Default Devices, but never solved the problem. I've been thinking if Audigy Sound Blaster can play this software "Rhythmania" which can be playable in SB Live!. I don't see the difference because they're all from the same Creative Technology. I appreciate very much your kind assistance and hopefully a solution would come out.

If you dont have a joystick port on the card, then you dont have a midi out. make sure your "out" or"playback" is patched to your card's synthesis engine, wavetable or GM/GS midi playback, and not to a "midi out" which really means a physical midi port.

My MIDI won't play back even when I play the file, no matter which program I use to play it. The computer I use is a Compaq Presario, I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 on it, and my sound card is SB X-FI...

The default MIDI setting of your PC may have been set for another MIDI device (for example, if Cakewalk Home Studio has been used with a MIDI compatible keyboard). Go to... Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices / Audio / MIDI music playback and change the setting back to your soundcard (and set as default if you prefer).

We want to change game port to midi

there is an adapter that will give you 2 midi connectors, as a matter of fact I have one right here, even includes a piggy backed female 15 pin connector for you to still be able to plug in a game controller.  Look for it in music shops that sell computer based recording / composition software and hardware.  I think I paid about CAD20 for mine
