Air whistling into vehicle through brake rubber boot/seal

Similar to prior problem: "99 Jeep Grand Cherokee-air is whistling into the passenger compartment through the brake pedal rubber boot underneath the dash. how to fix?"

But I checked and saw a small tear in the boot (which I think is formally called a seal).

Is just this boot/seal replaceable or does the entire power booster need replacing?

Thanks!

You should be able to replace the boot. Without seeing the vehicle, you should be able to disconnect the shaft going through the firewall and get the boot off/on that way.

Look for broken wires inside the flex boot , black rubber boot from the body of the vehicle to divers door. That year vehicle happens a lot after you open the door a million times.

Find a good local auto-electrician.

What would cause my 2001 Jeep Gr Cherokee to have sloppy brakes and stop running after being driving about 1/2 hour

if by sloppy brakes you mean that the pedal goes down further than it should there can be several reasons for this . firstly a faulty master cylinder that has muck in the rubbers ( failing rubbers) and should be replaced with a new unit, air still in the system of water in the brake fluid.
this happens because brake fluid is hygroscopic ( absorbs moisture from the air) when there is a heavy demand for braking, the heat generated at the pads and shoes transfers to the contaminated brake fluid and the water content boils off and produces steam or air which affects the brake efficiency. brake system fluid should be changed every 12 months and replaced only from a fresh, sealed container.
take the vehicle to an accredited brake shop and have a proper diagnosis done as it may save money and life.

Heat and air only come out defrost on windsheild not vent or floor

The air handlers on jeep are powered by engine vaccum and when a loss of vaccum happens the air is defaulted to defrost,so under the hood on passenger side is a 1/8 small black plastic line should be plugged into a bigger rubber or plastic vaccum line sometimes after a few years the rubber boots the use get soft and washing the engine or just moving things around can unhook the small line

AIR BAG LIGHT AND CHIME RINGS PERIODICALLY

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee Limited and Had similar problem. Found out that a wire/connection harness had gotten cut under PASSENGER seat.from seats moving back and forth. It's part of the airbag system, it tells airbag system if seatbelt is fastened and if occupant is in seat. Since the wire is broken, it can't report back to air back system and activates the light. try this, hope it helps.

99 Jeep GC Brake Lock

todays sports utility vehicles are equiped with a proportioning valve. they are usualy located at the rear of the vehicle. this valve regulates the flow of brake fluid to the calipers. most suv`s have a ride control arm on them that is linked to the rear suspension to apply more braking force to the rear wheels in a harsh or sudden stop. if this valve is bad or malfunctioning even body roll can redirect brake fluid to the rear wheels causing them to lock up., hope this info helps
