Question about Sanyo Xacti VCP-HD2 Camcorder

USB device unknown

When I connect my Sanyo VPC-HD2, via the docking station, to my Dell, it says USB device unknown. I have been able to connect it before, without problems. The USB ports I have tried are all working fine with other devices. I use Windows XP. Please - I need help urgently, since I want to copy the clips from the cam to my PC before travelling tomorrow

I am connecting directly to a USB on the PC, without any hub. There are no drivers on the CD's nor on Sanyo's web-site. As far as I know, there are two ways of retrieving clips: The cam may appear as a new drive (which it doesn't), or the Ulead auto detect program will detect the cam, when it's connected. But none of these options work.

Problem is solved ...! When connecting to the computer, I can choose between the options: card reader, mtp, screen capture or pc camera. Until now, none of those options worked. They all resulted in "USB device unknown". But I have now downloaded some mtp s/w from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...) and choosing the option mtp (Media Transfer Protocol) when connecting the cam, I get HD2 as a "device" or folder in Documents (I choose Cancel in the window popping up allowing me to select a program to handle the "device"). And by opening this "device" or folder, I can copy the clips to a video folder on the hdd. I am pretty sure I never used the mtp option before, but at least this option has solved my problem.

Its not this particular camera (its the cheaper version) however I suspect the software is the same. When connected all seams fine until the PC tries to download the pictures/video. The PC responds by saying the device is either busy or the batts are low, neither of which is the case. This is the second one, sent first back (Sanyo tech couldn't help)
Like the camera but useless if I cannot get the stuff of the card.

Make sure you are connecting directly to the computer's USB port, not through a hub. Try disconnecting other USB devices before plugging in the camera. Check the manufacturer's website for updaded drivers: if all else fails, a reinstall of the camera's drivers may be in order.

Hello Jackie.

2 of youre USBs are USB 3. so you need to install the right drivers for USB 3.
Also you should check youre BIOS settings, if there is an option to enable "XHCI" support so enable it. (USB 3 needs this to work ).
regards Gue.

Assuming you mean the VPC-HD2, you can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at

When connecting laptop to docking station, message pops up: unknown usb, restoring to an earlier point does not fix the problem.

Dear bansaii2002,
Try to uninstall the docking station by running the uninstall on Device Manager on your computer properties, then Click the Scan For Hardware Changes On Device Manager to find them back!
This is How:
Start>My Computer>(then Right Click to open the context menu)>Choose the 'Properties'>On My Computer Properties Box>Choose the Hardware Tab>Then Click on Device Manager>>> Then Do what I just suggest above!

Good Luck!

I don't have the disk to install my sanyo in my computer

You can find the Sanyo VPC-E760 Users Manual here.

If you make sure USB Mode on the camera is set to MSDC instead of PTP (Pictbridge Print), then when you connect the camera to your usb, windows should find it as a removable mass storage device automatically, without a drivers disk. If windows wants to search its online database for drivers, let it, but this should not be necessary.

How does a USB docking station work w/ a regular docking station

the older pc probably needs a usb 2.0 port to run docking station. the manual on the docking station should tell you. you may need to install a usb 2.0 pci card in your older computer for it to work.

Docking Station problem

You can try to update any system utilities drivers and docking station drivers. However, I found that with IBM and Gateway, when you remove a running machine from the docking station they tend to glitch just a bit and when you redock them they have issues. Your issue is the docking station attachments, I've also seen issues with the monitor only, mouse only and keyboard on the laptop, all not working. I've had a couple that if I used the "safely remove hardware" then they would work when removed then redocked, but not all machines give the safely remove hardware option with the docking station. If yours does, try that. If it doesn't and there are no driver updates or the updates don't work, then, unfortunately, I'm afraid you'll just have to live with restarting after every redock. One other thing you might try is, after redocking, do a hardware search. It may find the attachments. I know this is also a pain, but it may be easier than rebooting every time.

Well, There is an extra cord that connects to the computer and the camera, I don't know the exact name of this But If you have this and are needing help with that, a pop up from your computer should come up saying "Input device" and you should be able to do it there easily.
