Garmin Forerunner 305 cannot locate satellites

I've had this Garmin for almost three months, and it has worked fine. Today it suddenly could never locate satellites. I turned it off and on, but it still could not find the satellites. Oddly enough, when I put it on this morning, it asked if I was inside. It has never asked that before.

"I've had this Garmin for almost three months, and it has worked fine. Today it suddenly could never locate satellites. I turned it off and on, but it still could not find the satellites. " -- exactly the same. What I could add is the satellite page doesn't display any satellite blinking, just display N,S,E and W circles empty. I updated it from 2.70 to 2.80, but nothing changes. I am really disappointed. (I am from northeast of Brazil. Sorry for my english)

Today, my Garmin 305, which has been working fine, asked if I was indoors. I selected the option for being outside. It then asked for confirmation of today's date. I confirmed. It then got hug up trying to locate satellites on a perfectly clear day with no clouds. It did not start recording my run data until I was almost finished with my run.

    Hello,

My Garmin Forerunner 305 is no longer finding satellites. The unit also shows 7:00 PM each time it is turned on. I recent;y ran a race and afterwards used the WebUpdater program. Since then, I am experiencing the issues described above. Is there a way to complete a factory reset? In plain view of the southern sky this unit will not locate a satellite. The unit is less than a year old.

Looks like I have the same problem. I've had my Garmin for almost 4 months, and it has
worked fine. "Today it suddenly could never locate satellites. I turned
it off and on, but it still could not find the satellites." So, is this a defect with this product? I there a way to do a factory reset?

Quite agree (S Hopper - Midlands England) - Shoddy overpriced, overhyped junk - the Garmin 305 - which cost a not inconsiderable sum new (and I've had this more than a year but only used about a dozen times on walks mainly, but on a few runs - packed up getting the satellites while I was on holiday in Norway recently and keen to show its functionality to the locals - quite embarrassing when I couldnt locate the satellites in fjord country!! Hasnt worked since - upgraded the software and reset the settings - as I said - I've been mugged by Garmin

Good Day,My Gamin 260 loss satellite reception ' I did all the normal fixes described in the solutions above. It would work for a few minutes and then lose signal. Solution. I took it completely apart, there is a small cube 1"X1" that had filmed over on the back side across from the battery. I took some fine steel wool and cleaned off the film , made it shinny again. This solved the problem and I immediately got satellite reception inside my workshop.

Can't locate satellites

I've had this problem a few times too...Very annoying. What sometimes works for me is just placing the unit on the hood of a car. The unit goes from not seeing anything to locked in maybe half a minute. It's worked more than once, and friends have done this too. Don't ask why this works. But I would try this before doing any surgery or master resets. Good luck.

Forerunner 305 "problem receiving activities"

I've had this problem. First -- and this sounds weird -- use a USB port on the back of your computer. Do NOT use a "secondary" type of USB port, such as an add-on hub, the ports on the front of a desktop machine, ports built into peripherals like a monitor, etc. Apparently, all USB ports are not created equal. Second, make sure you've the freshest Garmin Communicator plugin (which may entail a fresh download/install).

Unable to acquire satellites with my garmin forerunner 305. a couple of guys using their 305s were able to quickly acquire.

I find my Garmin 305 is a slug to locate and lock on. But if I pull it off the charger just before I go for a run it locks on all most immediately. Give it a try and let me know if it works.

Only one satellite is enough to find the GPS device location or more satellites are required?

To determine location at least 4 satelites are needed.
If you know one element( latitude,or height) than 3 are sufficient

My Forerunner 305 was working when I ran today.  I just went to download and the 305 is completely dead.  No display when pressing 'on', and none in charging deck. What do you recommend? Thank you.

Press the reset and mode button simutaneously to reset watch

...then press the mode and start button at the same time for several seconds to start the watch up

I've owned a Garmin 305 forerunner for ~ 8 months now, and it's suddenly stopped working. The "on"/ off button does not function & the device won't download to PC either, is this fixable?

Your unit is still under warranty. With that type of problem i would suggest you give garmin a call first to claim warranty.

Garmin 305

I think that you have got a loose connection on the battery. I had the same problem, took the top off and had a poor connection on one of the battery terminals.

Any jolt would cause it to shut down.

Should be a simple fix if you don't mind going inside!

Garmin Forerunner 305 usb cable won't be read

The problem is probably not with the USB cable if the GPS wont even turn on. The older firmware of the Forerunner 205 and 305 have a problem with locking up. This causes the Forerunner to look completely dead. There is a reset procedure: push the mode and reset button at the same time and then let go and hit the power on button. If it powers on that is the problem. Go to the Garmin site and load the newest rev. of firmware into the Forerunner. Fixed mine and a few friends with the same problem.

I do however have a cable problem. Sometimes my PC will come up with unrecognized USB device and my 305 wont talk to the PC, it does charge. It is the cable or dock for sure, because I have tried a different cable/dock and the 305 has no problem. This is the reason I ended up here. I hope the lock fix works for those with the above problem.
