Ring tone lock

I have a sony ericsson 580i and when ever i download a mp3 file to use as a ringtone it keep telling cannot use this file is there anyway around that it is a unlock phone but it is registered to at&t

I have a sony ericsson 580i that I just got. When I send it music via bluetooth, it accepts the files, but then does not let me use them as ringtones. I have tried MP3s, M4As, and WAVs.

Why is this? Can I do something to fix it? I am so sad that this phone won't let me have happy music ringtones for my friends.

I have the same problem. All I want to do is download some songs and use them for ringtones and my phone won't let me. So how do I zap my phone so I can do this??

I have a sony ericsson w300i that apparently was the first generation of phones to have this copyright protection that locks downloaded music to be used as ringtones. To fix this, go to www.sonyericsson.com websites and look for a software called DRM packager. This software will allow you to convert any music and copyright it to allow the phone to play your songs as a ringtone. Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I had a similar problem with my Sony Ericsson w300i, and the DRM packager worked like a charm. Now, my phone broke about two weeks ago, and I'm using an older SE z310a. I've managed to get everything to work concerning file transfer, and I even used the DRM packager, but it STILL won't let me use my mp3 ringtones. Is there a small detail that I'm missing?

Same problem and I don't have any clue as to how to go about the suggested solution. Any more details?

Hi,

The problem here is the firmware/software running on your phone. It is restricting the use of files you personally downloaded as ringtones. The solution to this is to flash your phone with unbranded generic firmware.

Cannot delete ringtones

HI Below is the step by step method of how to delete your ringtones in your Motorola V3: Here is an easier way to delete the ringtones without much hassle. 1) Upload 1 mp3 rintone to your phone via MPT 2) Set ALL ringtones msg, alert etc, absolutely everything for all styles (obviously excl. silent & vibe) to the uploaded MP3 3) switch your phone off, then on again. This will update the .db files. 4) Using P2K, delete all the rintones, except for the MP3 that you uploaded, do not delete the .db files. Also, do not delete the .bas files as these are the base files for Motomixer. Set all reminders to OFF. do not EVER delete a ringtone that is currently in use by the phone. If you delete it while it is active, You will NOT be able to get into that particular tone setting. 5) Switch your phone off, then on again.
