The password you are getting stuck on is the one set up when you first turned on your computer. It had you create a user and password for that user. If you have been using the computer for a while it's the password you enter when you download updates.
If you forgot the password you can reset it by booting from the CD that came with the computer and choosing Reset Password from the menu at the top of the screen. To boot the computer, insert the CD in the drive (it's grey and white, was in the Everything Else package in your computer's box), restart the computer and hold the letter C key when you hear the chime or the screen goes black.
