No suction for Kenmore upright vacuum

I have cleaned the hose - there are no blockages. When the vacuum is turned on it has suction for maybe a second then a loud noise starts. The noise is coming from what appears to be a pressure release (flap) valve on the back of the vacuum.

You have not stated which model vacuum you have. Bipass vacuum have a bipass compartment which is under drive unit. Make sure there are no cracks around housing as this is where you vacuume is created. In order to have vacuum you must have airflow, in assences suction. No air flow, no suction. If the airflow is deverted somehow suction will stop. Your filter, your bag are all sources of air flow. Clog either and you lose suction. Start with loss of air, being cracks in housing, bag or filter

My Sonic Clean vacuum has no suction?

All questions need full make and model

They make a few models in upright and floor compacts. You have a blockage somewhere. When something is obstructing the flow, the motor is still trying to suck air. It has to go somewhere, so it blows instead. The blockage could be anywhere, but you mention brush rolls, so on an upright, remove the base plate and the brush and check the hole behind it. In a vacuum with a hose, check the hose itself and the motorized brush head, the same hole behind the brush.

If your vacuum's suction power has decrease with use, this is because 1) the filter bag needs to be changed and/or 2) the vacuum has a clog in the suction path. For clog removal instructions, please reference page 10 of your vacuum's user manual.

Why when I Pull out handle to use edging attachment, suction stops?

Make sure that the vacuum cleaner is in the fully upright position as there is a slide 'gate' thet directs suction to either the vacuum head or to the handle section depending as to which section you wish to use. In the upright position, you shoud be able to hear the vacuum at the handle where the attachments connect. If you still have vacuum at floor level, check the action of this gate. The actuating mechanism may be broken. Cheers Bob

Do you know why my kenmore vacuum is not picking the dirt up?

there are a couple things that can cause this -- first is a dirty/clogged filter,, remove the filter and tap it out and brush it out with a stiff brush ( a air compressor works best to blow out the filter ) ( but there are some filters out there that are not made of paper and are able to be washed in the dishwasher and dried out and re-used ).
second thing to cause a loss of suction is a blockage in the suction hose -- this blockage is almost always in the hose where it bends slightly down to the floor unit,, remove the floor plate and use a wire coat hanger to fish out the blockage. while you have the plate off make sure you check the belt for wear and tear.

I have a Kenmore "Intuition"

I had a different vacuum that did this. I took all manner of things apart looking for blockages and the like .I found that by having the vacuum handle in the full upright position shuts off the suction to this area and doesn't power the brush BY DESIGN. I think this is to get more suction to the hose.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

No suction when vacuuming, but suction is good when using hose

check for blockage from where the hose sets in its
holder to the roller brush. Also see if the brush is
turning, the belt maybe broken.

Only suction to attachments

Something is stuck in the throat of the floor head, between the brushes that turn, and where the hose connects at one side (usually right hand side) of the floor head.

NO SUCTION AND CLEANING LIGHT IS NOT WORKING

You have a dirty filter somewhere. Ignore the fact that the light hasn't come on because it is probably burned out. Check the bag and any filter areas for blockages - they are there. Take the hoses off, stretch them out and run a broom handle through them to check for problems there.

Progressive with Direct Drive not picking up

check and see if your brush roller is turning.remove the hose and see if you have suction.if not then you have something stuck in the suction intake. after removing the hose turn it on and put your hand over the hole wher the hose was connected to the base.if there is suction there then you have a blockage in your hose.if thats the case take the hose completely off the vacuum and take it outside and blow it out with a garden hose.if the blockage is in the intake then get a coat hanger and bend the tip so it is round, then work it down into the hole where the hose was connected to the base.you should be able to push push out the clog through the bottom.also clean all the filters real good.you can also take the filters out and then turn it on if you have suction then ,then its the filters

Kenmore progressive Direct Drive Vacuum w/Hepa

Check the hose and dirt inlet for a blockage. Also the brush roll, check it to see if you can turn it or not by hand. If not, then something may have jammed it.
