Usually there are 2 types of wireless connections, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Your laptop may not be able to connect to one of these connections, so it may be incompatible with your router. You can try buying a USB networking card (no more than $20). It will plug into one of your USB ports and should allow you to connect to your router. Hope this helps!
go to a command prompt window (start, type in "cmd") once there type "ipconfig /release" (space between ipconfig and the /) wait for it to release, then type "ipconfig /renew" (all without the quotation marks) this should work
The Security Key is normally used for Wireless routers to protect your connection from any unauthorized use. As you have said that you do not have the Security key for your router with you, the best way to connect your ACER laptop to the Netgear router is by asking your Wireless service provider to reset the security key & freshly reentering the same on both of your HP & ACER laptops.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router is there any computer connected to the router ? If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer. Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.
These are some reasons why your new Hp laptop can't connect through your Netgear Router is because your Router has a security that used a password to connect to your router or the ip address of your desktop and Dell laptop is already setup to the router to work with internet.
To connect into your own Netgear router, you need to configure the wireless card with your router's wireless configuration settings, eg.the SSID and encryption settings. Check your router manual on how to configure the router or go to the Netgear WEB site to download this info. To configure the Netgear router for wireless you need to connect a LAN cable from the laptop to the router and run your browser with the configuration IP address. for Netgear type the URL address ;- http://192.168.0.1
the login = admin PW = password
Then configure the SSID and encryption, record this info so you can configure the wireless card with the same settings.
You can also connect to the Internet by using a LAN cable and plug it into the Netgear router without a wireless connection.
What is your operating system (Vista/XP, older Windows)? Have you turned on the router's wireless router radio from the computer that is connecting? (Login to the router's setup page at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (depending on the router) and go to Advanced menu and click Wireless Settings.) While you are there, enable the SSID Broadcast (another checkbox hust below the one for Wireless Router Radio). Now check if your laptop can see the router.
Additional FAQs that might be helpful are at http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2589. That page has a link to setting up XP for wireless networking as well.
Helen, you should be able to connect from your laptop to your router wirelessly. From what I understood your router is hooked up to your PC directly. If that's the case from your PC connect to your router and enable wireless. Go to Netgear support web page to find out how to do it. Once enabled, you should see your router's name in the list of available wireless networks on your laptop
Try This : Paste the link on the address bar of the Internet explorer or CLick on the
link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/ndu/
Click on HPHNDU_10...
Click on Save and save it to your desktop and run the software . It will Show your Network Name and The WEP/WPA key .
Then try the Username as "admin" and Password "password" under the router
page authentication
This should be done with the computer that is attached to the router
Or you can temporarily connect the Laptop with a Ethernet cable to the router
If still it doesn't work can call up the router company.

There are a couple of ways to go on this one..first plug into the router with a netwrok cable, NOT via wireless.
If you have just opened the box on the netgear router you would need to configure some basic settings such as the SSID (name of the router) the country the router is in and maybe some type of security settings...often this cannot be done via a wireless connection at first, you must connect your laptop's netowrk port to a touter port on the rear of the Netgear. Open I.E. and navigate to something like http://192.168.0.1 (look on the sticker on the botton of the Netgear) setup the basics then try your wireless link using the settings you programmed.
