Question about Sigma APO 50-500mm F4-6.3 EX DG/HSM Lens

1 Answer

Soft focus 3 year old lens will not focus sharp at 500mm anymore. I've taken a lot of pictures with this lens with no real problems until now. I've tried it on other canon bodies with the same results. Its just a soft focus. Never been dropped. If not mounted it's in its case. Also the finish did not hold up, it started peeling off right away. I'm wondering if it can be fixed, or if its worth it.

I would say it is fixable. It could be a couple of different things. Loose optics and/or mount spacing could be the problem. Check here on Fixya to find a repair person in your area.

The lens does not focus manually or automatically.

Hi.
I have a lot of experiencie repairing Sigma lens.
In this zoom 150-500, the problem is located at the focus mechanism. This is a rear-focus lens so the focus mechanism is close to the bayonet.
It is not very hard to repair, but is better if you send to a Sigma Service Station.
Normally the mechanism is stuck due to a fall or strong punch.

Unable to get sharp pictures, poor focus with P90

Two things can make a photo non sharp. 1) Bad focus and 2) Vibration while shooting. In general when hand holding a shorter lens your exposure should be 1/60 or faster. Your 7600 may have vibration reduction so it helps with point two.

If you use a tripod you control point two. if the photos are still blurry you either have the wrong focus mode set or possibly the lens is damaged or out of alignment. I cannot tell sitting here. Control Vibration and use a Tripod when in doubt.

There is a focusing issue with your lens focusing motor or electronics controlling it. Unless it is a very expensive camera it may not be cost effective for repair.

Pictures not real sharp

Joyce, if your taking the pictures in a low light situation like in the house, the lens opens up wide which gives a shalow depth of field. To get a deaper depth of field use flash or take them outside, the lense will stop down to a smaller aperture and more will be in focus.

Opteka 500mm f/8 mirror lens for my DSLR and it's says no lens

You need to turn the mode dial to Manual (M). You won't be able to use the camera's built-in exposure meter at all with this lens. You can take an exposure reading with another lens to use as a starting point, then review the pictures and histograms to fine-tune the exposure.

500mm lens will not function with my Canon digital Rebel XT.

This lens will work with Canon cameras. I use one on my Canon 30D. It is a fixed F8 you can not use auto or green box because there are not any contacts on the lens to talk to the camera. Its back to the basics manual adjust shutter and ISO to the get a correct exposer. DEFINITLY NOT A POINT AND SHOOT LENS.

DSC-S75 focusing problems...

Without seeing a photo, here are a few possibilities. 1) Shutter speed too low (camera shake). 2) Camera is focusing on something in the foreground. 3) Focus not locked, low light, low contrast scene. Items 2 and 3 can be corrected by manual focus. Set the focus to 1 click below infinity, depth of field will insure everything is in focus. For item 1 remember that the shutter speed must be 1/125 sec or faster at full zoom to avoid camera shake.
