Hi

Thank you for your query

Unfortunatley this is a massive job involving taking everything (and i really do mean everything apart)

This is something i would not recommned you do, it would be far to difficult to put this into words, so i would recommned that you take the laptop to a reputable PC shop to swap out for you

The casing can be bought relativley cheaply of ebay

Top 1/2 of screen very dim and bottom 1/2 very bright

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

A large black spot usually means the LCD screen is damaged. It may have fine cracks around the black spot. In this case the LCD screen needs to be replaced.

Laptop fell and hinge is damaged - is it easy to replace the hinge

Hello,
Most cases the hinge is a part of the LCD screen and bolts to the laptop case. You may need to replace the whole LCD. You best bet would be to give HP a call or look on ebay under your model for parts.

My son has an ACER 3683 notebook which was accidently damaged and broke the screen. Although it is still in the extended warranty period, the way the damage occurred, would not qualify for repair under any...

As the graphics controller/card is either integrated into the Motherboard or stacked on it, the case has to come apart to replace the screen. You can check online auctions or other outlets for replacement screens or non functioning laptops like yours for the parts you need. You didn't mention whether the screen housing was damaged or any other damage to the case, if there is the laptop with a bad mobo or hd for parts would be the cheaper option. But you must also be able to or have someone who can preform the labor for you as it's not for first timers, otherwise I would look to replace the laptop and part yours out. JMHO

Screen Is Blank...

Hello Ayoitzpyda, The problem you have is related to the connector from the mainboard to the lcd pannel. It got loose from it's socket and can't send the video signals to the lcd pannel to display. Or it is probably damaged. However in both cases you will need to have it checked at a service center. This shouldn't be an expensive repair but I recomand you to ask them a cost estimate before they actually repair it. If you have a damaged connector that needs to be replaced, it will be easy for them to change it, but if they don't have such spare parts it will be very expensive to get a new one as they are skipped only with the entire screen as a whole part. If you need more informations please post back.
