Question about FrancisFrancis! X1 - Stainless Steel Espresso Machine

FRANCIS Francis espresso problem..just barely coming out..

What do I do? The temp is correct, water is in the bin but the machine now takes forever to make a cup of espresso and it comes out so slowly there is no crema.

    I have the same problem. I tried calling the helpline, and while they were nice the problem continues. I use illy espresso which should work in the machine :(

    Same problem, I just tried using descaler as per machine instructions, and the water started to come out faster, but then just stopped entirely - Could I have burned out the coffee switch? The on/off switch is lit up, as is the coffee switch, but all is silent. Now what?

    Same problem. Water just dripped out. So I descaled with an industrial strength cleaner - it worked for one cup then went to a trickle again. Descaled again with a vinegar solution. It ran through again (this time for thee cups) with no crema on any, then the 'boiler' became quieter and quieter and now it's back to 'drip' 'drip' 'drip'... what to do?

    Hi, folks...I have the opposite problem. Water now runs through so quickly I get poor quality espresso and no crema. Temps and pressure to the steam wand are fine; and I get very finely ground coffee (have ground at Starbucks). Have also decalcified. Any idea how to fix a lack of adequate pressure in the coffee passage? Thanks much

    Hi, I have the opposite problem: water now pours too quickly through the coffee = weak espresso and no creama. The temps and pressure throughthe steam wand are fine; I've decalcified; and I use finely ground coffee from Starbucks. Don't know what else to try. Suggestions?

Try removing the metal grille from the machine. I don't know the term, but it's held in with a single allen screw on the underside of the machine. Don't use the allen key that FrancisFrancis provide, it's made of soft metal and useless. Buy a decent one.

I did this, and found coffee 'goo' a millimetre thick on top of this sheet of metal. Once I'd cleaned it off it was fine. To clean it, I put it into a cup and soaked it with Mr Muscle oven cleaner, left it for an hour, and then scrubbed it clean. I ran a sewing needle across the back to help clear the pinholes.

You may be grinding the coffee beans too finely - it tends to 'pack' when you do this and restricts the flow.
nb If you grind too 'coarse', the water pumps straight through and virtually no flavour is extracted.
Practice adjusting the coarseness on your grinder. Mark your grinder when you find the right cut.

I have a Francis Francis x1 machine, but when i want to make an espresso shot, and turns on the espresso button, the steamer spour out boiling water (not steam, and not while turned on). Does anyone k


Don't know how your controls are set, but you have two switches on the front and a knob on the right. The switch for the steamer (the right hand switch) should be off. The knob on the right should be turned clockwise to turn in off. Then no water or steam should come out of the steamer wand. If it does, the seal on the knob inside the machine is broken. It can be repaired but only if you're handy with a screwdriver (make sure if you take it apart you disconnect it from the mains).

My Francis Francis x1 wont heat


You should check the temperature of the water coming out from the machine when it show that is heated. If it is lower than 90 C then the thermostat inside the machine attached to the boiler is need to be replaced. If the temperature of the water is about 90C then the problem is with thermometer, and in this case is only an accesorie since the machine can faction properly and make a good espresso.

Francis Francis X 4, milk steam not working !


Is it coming out something at all though the steam nossle? if tis not its probably blockage in the steam pipe, trie and clean it.

if its dripping och just coming out alitle water from the steam nossle i would trie and descale the machine.
