Rotate the dial on the defrost thermostat, a big click is when it goes into defrost, a little more and it should turn the compressor back on. By overload protector, do you mean the one under the compressor cover?

Compressor is cycling on the overload protector. If refrigerator is over five years old the warranty may be expired. I which case I never recommend replacing the compressor if the customer is to bear the full expense.

You have a problem with the compressor. The compressor is cycling on the overload protector and the compressor may have reached the end of its life. If your refrigerator is still covered by a five year warranty it should be replaced under the warranty.

First check and make sure the condenser is clean and free of dust and dirt. It is located behind a removable panel in back. Shut the refrigerator off and allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. Make sure the fan in back operates when you restart the compressor.

It is the compressor that has failed. The hum is it trying to start and the following click is the overload protector opening. What is the temperature where the refrigerator is located? Allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. If it still does not restart after it has cooled off it is done.

Electrical unit attached to compressor keeps making a spark(clicking sound) Fridge & freezer slowly stopped cooling during the day and is now down to 0 cool.

Overload thermal protector is tripping out. When a mechanical refrigerator is unplugged it should remain unplugged for 5-10 minutes to allow the refrigerant pressure to equalize. If you unplug it and then plug it right back in the overload will open on and off until the pressure in the system balance to the point where the compressor will start.

This protector is a two way protector. It opens on Over current and or over temperature. If a condenser is plugged with dust , hair or what ever the fan which circulates the air for cooling the system will not move enough air to keep the compressor with-in operating temperature range. The thermal protector will open.

S22 freezer not working

Is the compressor hot to the touch? Is there any sound coming from the compressor is you listen for a minute or two? If the compressor is cold to the touch it is getting no power. No power tells you that :
1 the cold control is open or bad.
or 2 the overload protector is open

If you are able, unplug the freezer, disconnect the two wires the attach to the cold control, jumper these wires, plug in the freezer and if the freezer then runs and cools the problem is a bad cold control. If nothing happens, the overload protector is open.
