TV sound on but picture fades to black problem

  • eyesmannnnn Mar 17, 2008

Have the same problem, my TV set is a Samsung CRT 21". But the thing is it faded for a couple of times and after turning on for the third time I was able to watch without problem for about 6 hours or so. But the following day when I turned it on again, I encountered the same problem.

Need help very badly, have no budget yet to buy another TV set.

    Many thanks!

My name is Mary and I am having the same problem with my 10 month to 1 year old 32" RCA XBOX Television. I turn it on and about 10 to 15 minutes later it goes completely black and ther is still sound. It also sounds like the Channels are changing while the screen is black. Please tell me what is going on. Can reach me at or (409) 983-8289. Thank you for your assistance.

3 yr. old 15" Magnavox LCD, picture black, sound fine and remote works to the extent of changing the channels, but no picture comes up. It happened about a month ago and I just pulled the plug and check all of the cords that they were tight and plugged it back in and it worked for 2 months. Yesterday the picture is not there again. I did the same procedure, but this time it did not work. I feel that a three year old tv for $227.00 should last longer than that. If anyone could help, it would be appreciated. KLWfred

I fixed this same problem by opening up the tv and just emptying a can of compressed air all over the thing to get rid of all the particles I could. Works fine now.

Philips Magnavox 32MT3305 keeps shutting off with relay clicking. The green power light stays on but the picture and sound go out right after the orange status bar goes away. If the channel up or down...

the relay is the safety protective device..sometimes a defective component or something. maybe an overloaded power supply might caused this before any thing could gets worst..the relay will shut the unit..

Philips tv

it seems that there is a problem in your sound section. it seems that there is no proper supply to sound section or some capacitor might be faulty.

Color fades in and out of picture

The first thing I would check is the antenna or cable connection into the set. When an analog TV signal is weak, the first thing to go is the color, then the picture, then the sound. If you have another TV, connect it to the very same cable or antenna connection and see if it fails the same way, too. Make sure you just disconnect the cable end right where it goes into the failing TV and connect it to the other TV - don't disconnect the antenna cable from the wall for this check. If the second set does not fail, gently pull on the antenna wire - not too hard, you just want to put a little tension on it to see if it makes the color cut out. Reconnect the first one and try again. If it's fine now, the connection was loose. If not, it has a tuner problem that must be repaired. Also, when you look at the end of a TV connector, the center wire should stick out just a little bit, like in the attached photo. If it doesn't stick out as bit, it won't make good contact, and will result in a weak signal. I appreciate your rating if you find this helpful.
