Compaq presario cd-rw/dvd-rom combo drive does not recognize dvds. the driver is installed but dvds do not play.

you may check youe BIOS settings by restarting the pc and repeatedly press F2. Then check your PC or system settings wherein there is a list of peripherals such as Floppy Disk, CD/DVD drive, Network Adapter etc. Those peripherals will tell you if they are enabled or not. use your arrow keys to select and check if the CD/DVD drive is enabled. Then press F10 to exit and hope that CD/DVD would work...

We do have a sound card but we dont have a driver i want to install one but im afraid its not compatible with our pc..im im not sure if we are using windows xp or 7

Most modern sound chips use an AC'97 driver Go to www.realtek.com and download the driver listed in the support area of the web site. This driver should suffice. Windows 7 is a little more of a pain as many peripherals do not have Windows 7 compatible drivers as yet. At this stage, try the realtek website..
