Kitchenaid downdraft retractable vent

My retractable vent just stopped working. I did not replace or adjust the vents. I used it one day successfully and the next time that I pressed the button for it to turn on, and nothing happens. I have checked the electrical connection and it is working fine. Any suggestions?

My KitchenAid Retractable Downdraft Vent Systemn Model KIRD801 keeps going up and then down whenever I push the button. It will not stay up. I tried numerous times until now when it is stuck halfway - won't go up, won't go down and the blower won't turn on. I can hear the motor running. I turned off the breaker to stop the motor from running because I was afraid of what might happen if I left it running like that. How do I fix this?

Your drive motor arm is not making contact with either of the two limit switches at 6 and 12 positions. Your arm may be loose, gear stripped, broken bracket. Turn off the power at the breaker panel and remove the vent pipe cover box (4 nuts) see what is going on inside. Tellstar

Check for power going into the switch. (you need a meter) If the switch is set to "on" there should be power going in and out. Find a good ground or use the white wire to test. If there is, just follow the path of electricity. If you do not have a meter this is next to impossible to do.

Kitchen Aid downdraft hood stuck in retracted position

The filters need to be seated properly to complete an electrical safety circuit. This keeps the unit from operating without the filters. The best way I have found to fix them when they get dislodged in the closed position is by using two spatulas. The first is used to move the filter forward a bit and the second is used to keep it pushed tightly forward to complete the circuit.

Downdraft vent won't stay down. Push the button and it retracts normally, then pops right back up?

check your bottom limit switch - i'm guessing its bad. the unit doesn't stop operating til it trips a (working) limit switch, if the switch is bad it'll cyle right past it and go back up until it hits the top limit switch (again).

Pivot arm in telescoping downdraft system sticks when closing

Having the same problem. Unit worked well for 1 1/2 years and then suddenly it dropped after I was thru using it and pushed the arrow for it to go down after it dropped the power wouldn't turn off - had to unplug it.. Repairman came out , took it out, lubricated it , re-installed and next time it went up fine, vented fine but when it went down it dropped again and power wouldn't turn off again. I am hesitant to call him out again unless I can figure out what else might fix the problem. I have noticed that the top piece now seems to be bowed a bit. I guess I can have him take out the cooktop but think there must be enough room for it if it worked fine for the 1 1/2 years. It is a soapstone countertop.

sears labor is 137 plus parts. that is something that would need to be looked at. it could be a few different things. if he is handy he can open it up to see if anything is misaligned or broken. the vent may even just be a little crooked and once straight may go up and down like normal

Cook 'n Vent Downdraft Up/Down Mechanism Replacing

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

Install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

Hi schmidt_rich,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You took over as owner builder when your builder "took the $ and ran". You are installing kitchen cabs now and discovered the PVC vent pipe (which goes into the foundation and out the side of the house) is in the wrong place for the location of the downdraft unit and integral blower. The vent is actually under the electrical connection panel. You were told initially( 2 yrs ago when you bought the downdraft cook'n'vent) there could be no bends in the exhaust fan route or it would change the effectiveness. Does anyone know if it is ok to put a bend in the connection to the vent? Or do you need to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I can syphathise. I have had to deal with this same problem. I have found that one ell will not degrade the effectiveness enough to notice. If you need more then you may need to adjust cabinets.
