One of my friend had the same problem and i tried reseting it and it worked just fine. If u dont know how to reset it this is how ..... Hold down the menu and the middle button at the same time for about 6 seconds or until the screen goes black.

Green and ORANGE? orange indicates the iPod is searching for music.
UNDERSTAND this- when you play music in the iTunes app., you are hearing the music in your computer not the iPod.
1) Install the latest iTunes application.

If all your music is in iTunes, format and restore the iPod to a Mac formatted iPod in iTunes. There are some firmware updates as well, which restoring will give you, and these should help. After doing so, iTunes will copy all your music back to the ipod.

My ipod won't play songs I bought from itunes, and it won't let me download new ones.

Unfortunately, if you did not back up your music, the songs cannot be recovered. iTunes allows for one download of a song purchased.
