Samsung Fridge freezer - switches on fine. reaches correct temps .. turns off .. and then dont come back on again HELP HELP HELP

Hallo

It could be the compressor winding's starting to cause it not to start up after running for a while because the drier is blocked and when the drier is blocked it will start running in a vacuum causing it to spark(burn) on the inside of the compressor or could still be in a vacuum and causes it to spark when it should start.

Regards

I have a Kenmore 5 cu ft freezer that won't come on. I've tested the power cord and that's not the problem. Where should I start looking?

Make sure that power is reaching the motor after going thru the thermostat.
If juice is there replace the starting capacitor. If the motor gets hot but still does not run the rotor might be frozen - check with ammeter for abnormal current draw.
If compressor is frozen all you can do is replace unit.

Kenmore Chest Freezer Model number 1987191852 has started to defrost own its own. Compressor starts and shuts down after appx 2 seconds. Has this unit reached the end? is it cost effective to repair?

Good day,
That short cycle you hear, is the compressor trying to start, and can't.
It is possible one of the start components has failed. Under a cover on the side of the compressor are either 3 or 2 components.
The start relay, the protective overload and on some models a start/run capacitor. These components can be removed by pulling them off of the pins of the compressor.
Most appliance parts houses will be glad to test them for you. Replace any that test bad.

If all test O.K. then it is an internal problem with the compressor itself, which would take the services of a trained tech and pretty pricey.

Freezer temp

No, these fluctuations are a sign of a unstable control unit. test the control unit for its operational value and , replace the thermostats as well.
