Question about Canon PIXMA MP210 Photo All-In-One Printer
Have been using the MP610 for 2 months from new without any problems until now when each time I try to power up, Error message says U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognised. On lifting the panel discovers that the Yellow ink light is turned off. Removed the ink cartridge and placed back and the light comes on again. However when all the cartridges goes back into the printing position, same error message appears because the cartridge light is turned off again.
How do I get the light to stay on so that the cartridge is recognised?
Have tried removing all the cartridges and replacing them again but with the same error message appearing each time.
HI. Try holding the reset button for 6 seconds to overide the error. This may dissable the chip so it won't report but will allow you to keep printing. Simply check the ink tanks visually.
Refilling will give the same error too, again dissable the error.

I was having the same problem with the magenta tank on the MP610. I moaned and growled about it for a while. Then I wrote to Canon. They wrote me write back and asked me to troubleshoot some things. When that didn't work, they replaced the cartridge tank immediately. FedEx brought it to my door within days. Now it works like new. I was happy to know it was only the ink tank. Canon's customer service is a class act. Just email them.

It appears that this is a common problem which Canon Users claim that Canon deliberately programmed the chip to trigger this fault in spite of the ink cartridge being hardly used. Canon will replace the cartridge as it is still under warranty. However the problem will still remain after a similar period of time.
This is short-sighted marketing ploy to get people to buy more cartridges even though it is barely used. They have just lost a Customer for future products.

I have solved this problem 6 months ago and have sent my solution but it appears that it was not published. Replace the original cartridges with an American alternate cartridge. The chip works like the original without any fuss. I have been using them for 6 months with any problem and it is much cheaper.
Buy the TrueStar re-manufactured Ink Cartridge. I suspect the reason my solution was not publish was because I mentioned where they could be purchased.

Swapped out the chip from the old cartridge to the new - it stills gives an out of ink warning but the "print cartridge not recognized" warning went away and printing is not distrupted...

Thanks for advise. Holding reset button during all business with print/scan is painfull but very helpfull.

Have found the perfect solution to this U150 Problem. Complained to Canon to get a replacement cartridge which I am glad to say they obliged under the warranty agreement.
Then I orderd from Cartridge People at www.cartridgepeople.com.
They supply compatible cartridges which works like the original. They came supplied with a chip that works exactly like the original and shows the usage level on the computer. The price is £5.49 per cartridge. Just plug in and replace without any fuss.

I"ve found hitting "OK" allows it to print, over-riding the error. since my cartridge is full, the color prints fine. so I don't recommend replacing the cartridge until you see the colors have run out.

I had the same problem with my Magenta tank as gbabb and Nygumbo -- it couldn't be recognized. However, after emailing Canon I discovered I had replaced the Canon 8 Magenta tank with the Canon 8 Red tank, asking for the "red one" at Office Depot. When that didn't work I found this site and went back and replaced the red tank several times before emailing Canon. I learned the hard way that Red is not the same as Magenta! Now the printer runs beautifully and Canon even sent me a free tank for my trouble !

I have the same problem with my MP610. It has only been on the magenta color. This is the 2nd time in 1 year that this has happened. I just put a new cartridge in last week so it has nothing to do with how old/long you have had the cartridge in the printer. I am so frustrated. I want to print now, not in 2 days when fed ex can deliver a new cartridge......I will never by a Canon printer again. To bad the Mac store still sells them. Gianna
