Canon Pixma MP610 CARTRIDGE PROBLEM

Have been using the MP610 for 2 months from new without any problems until now when each time I try to power up, Error message says U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognised. On lifting the panel discovers that the Yellow ink light is turned off. Removed the ink cartridge and placed back and the light comes on again. However when all the cartridges goes back into the printing position, same error message appears because the cartridge light is turned off again.

How do I get the light to stay on so that the cartridge is recognised?

Have tried removing all the cartridges and replacing them again but with the same error message appearing each time.

HELP!!!

Desperate,
Kegan

I have the same problem with my Canon Pixma MP520. Have been using it
for about 2 months. Started to occasionally not recognize yellow
cartridge; removing and re-inserting it seemed to do the trick. Printer
is now showing error 'U150 following ink tank cannot be recognized' all
the time. Re-inserting cartridge makes light come back on but as soon
as the lid is closed, error comes up again. Is replacing this cartridge
every 2 months the only way to fix this problem??

Similar problem with my magenta ink tank. Keep getting error message that two magentas are installed. tried replacing the tank, but still the same message. Works intermittently.

Having the same problem. My magenta ink tank cannot be recognized. I keep trying to reattach the cartridge. I was able to get it to work a few times. Now nothing. Any solutions? Can't print. Can't scan. I've only had the thing a few months. Very frustrating!

I have the same problem with my Canon MP610. When I turn the printer on it shows the U150 error message for my magenta ink tank. At first I used to be able to turn the printer off/on and a few times got it to work, but now it doesn't work no matter what I try. I just can't print now. Very very frustrating. Does anyone have any direct contact to Canon for this issue?

I have the same problem with the Black Ink Tank in my 3 week old MP520. When the problem started I would remove and reinstall the tank and it would work until I powered the printer back up. However that solution no longer seems to work. One solution posted on this forum says Canon will replace the defective tank. Will retail outlets such as Office Max, or Office Depot honor the tank warrenty since I bought the printer on line at buy.com?

After only one month of satisfactory use with my MP610 I now get the U150 error message.  Ugh!

Yep same problem - only had the printer since May 08. Called Canon happy to replace cartridge, problem with the contact sensor. Sadly printer will not work on 3 cartridges. Wife thinks I should have brought a HP!

Ugh! Yes! Printed fine earlier this afternoon, then suddenly this #%#%#% U150 error on my MP960.
I've always been a loyal Canon customer, but this is my second major issue with this particular machine. Nothing I do gets it going. Reseating the errant cartridge makes its light turn on but then when you close the lid, the error is back. Grrrrr

  • briannaJ Aug 28, 2008

Same Problem. I've had my Canon MP610 only a short while and it was working fine until this U150 message would pop up for my black ink tank. Like others have said, For a short time it was temporarily "repairable" by clicking the tank back into place to make it light up, and closing the lid. Now there is nothing I can do, no amount of fussing with the cartridges or pressing of any buttons that will allow me to get past this notice to Just print something!! This is ridiculous and I need a new printer if this continues to be a reoccurring *issue* even after canon sends a free replacement of the (already full) ink tank.

I have a Pixma MP610 and it is giving me a U150 error -"ink tank not recognized"  The light on the cartridge goes out.  Taking the cartridge out and replacing it makes the light come back on, but after one printed page, I get the same error.  This is a new printer and all of the cartridges are full.  Only been able to print less than 10 pages to date as this is a big hassle to get it to print at all. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have a PIXMA MP610. My printer showed messege of refill ink (black) , so I pressed the reset button for 6 secs. Then the message gone and started using another colour (blue) for black.(I guess i have dissabled the chip so it won't report but will allows to keep printing).
Now, I have refilled the ink tank (Manually), then also the printer is using another color for black. I also performed nozzele check, in that also printer is printing all colours not using black colour and leaving blank space in place where black colour should be printed.

HI. Try holding the reset button for 6 seconds to overide the error. This may dissable the chip so it won't report but will allow you to keep printing. Simply check the ink tanks visually.

Refilling will give the same error too, again dissable the error.

I was having the same problem with the magenta tank on the MP610. I moaned and growled about it for a while. Then I wrote to Canon. They wrote me write back and asked me to troubleshoot some things. When that didn't work, they replaced the cartridge tank immediately. FedEx brought it to my door within days. Now it works like new. I was happy to know it was only the ink tank. Canon's customer service is a class act. Just email them.

It appears that this is a common problem which Canon Users claim that Canon deliberately programmed the chip to trigger this fault in spite of the ink cartridge being hardly used. Canon will replace the cartridge as it is still under warranty. However the problem will still remain after a similar period of time.

This is short-sighted marketing ploy to get people to buy more cartridges even though it is barely used. They have just lost a Customer for future products.

I have solved this problem 6 months ago and have sent my solution but it appears that it was not published. Replace the original cartridges with an American alternate cartridge. The chip works like the original without any fuss. I have been using them for 6 months with any problem and it is much cheaper.

Buy the TrueStar re-manufactured Ink Cartridge. I suspect the reason my solution was not publish was because I mentioned where they could be purchased.

Hopefully you've worked this out by now! If not, lift up the main lid (cover), as if to make a photocopy. Pull down vertical (silver) front flap - where your photocopies will come out. Now place one hand under the top edge of the photocopy surface, and hold the lid with the other. Pull upwards with the first hand - eh voila! The cartridges will automatically move over from the right. Hope that helps.

Swapped out the chip from the old cartridge to the new - it stills gives an out of ink warning but the "print cartridge not recognized" warning went away and printing is not distrupted...

Dear friends,
Thanks for advise. Holding reset button during all business with print/scan is painfull but very helpfull.

Have found the perfect solution to this U150 Problem. Complained to Canon to get a replacement cartridge which I am glad to say they obliged under the warranty agreement.

Then I orderd from Cartridge People at www.cartridgepeople.com.
They supply compatible cartridges which works like the original. They came supplied with a chip that works exactly like the original and shows the usage level on the computer. The price is £5.49 per cartridge. Just plug in and replace without any fuss.

I"ve found hitting "OK" allows it to print, over-riding the error. since my cartridge is full, the color prints fine. so I don't recommend replacing the cartridge until you see the colors have run out.

I had the same problem with my Magenta tank as gbabb and Nygumbo -- it couldn't be recognized. However, after emailing Canon I discovered I had replaced the Canon 8 Magenta tank with the Canon 8 Red tank, asking for the "red one" at Office Depot. When that didn't work I found this site and went back and replaced the red tank several times before emailing Canon. I learned the hard way that Red is not the same as Magenta! Now the printer runs beautifully and Canon even sent me a free tank for my trouble !

I have the same problem with my MP610. It has only been on the magenta color. This is the 2nd time in 1 year that this has happened. I just put a new cartridge in last week so it has nothing to do with how old/long you have had the cartridge in the printer. I am so frustrated. I want to print now, not in 2 days when fed ex can deliver a new cartridge......I will never by a Canon printer again. To bad the Mac store still sells them. Gianna

You've eliminated all other options, so obviously your printer is defective.

Call canon if it is under warranty, otherwise you will have to replace it.

My Canon Pixma MP610 printer will not print. It

Possible causes: Empty cartridges or new cartridges with cover strip still on the contacts, plugged printhead, wipe with warm water on paper towel to see if all colors are there, also physicallyclean the black cartridge. Try to print. If not working, use the printhead clean and or prime in the printer's maintenance tab.

You cannot switch to the larger black cartridge. You are using a CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black) format for printing color images.

The larger cartridge is used for text only. The smaller black cartridge is used for color or graphic images.

If the black cartridge was not present, every time you needed black in an image, it would have to come from the composition of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. This would greatly reduce the life of the color cartridges.

Every now and then we get a defective cartridge, and Canon will replace it. If it's generic or refilled, you just need a new one. It's a cartridge problem, not a printer problem

After 2 years trouble free service, error 'U052 The type of print head is incorrect' has appeard?

The dreaded U052 error means that the 'chip' fitted to the Cartridge is not responding .. Canon (like all printer mfgs) makes all it's profit from selling Ink .. so they fit these chips to try to prevent you refilling or using a 'compatible' replacement cartridge

You have to move the chip from the Canon cartridge to the 'compatible' and (it seems) the chips are particularly sensitive to static / damage .. many people end up blowing the chips during the swap over .. or even when fitting the original genuine cartridges to a brand new unit for the first time ...

If the unit is brand new, take it back and demand a replacement ... if you have just swapped over the chip onto a compatible cartridge, you can try buying a genuine Canon cartridge (which will have a new chip) = hopefully that will do the trick

Have you tried replacing the cartridge? It may not be empty, but it could be defective (it happens once in a while).
However, IF a new cartridge doesn't fix it, I honestly would pack it up and return to the store you bought it from...

If they still have them in stock, just ask for an even-exchange -- offering to let the store keep anything from the box that you didn't bring with you so that they can then return it to their vendor without penalty. That way, they'll be more inclined to accommodate your request (believe me, I know; I managed computer and office supply stores for over 10 yrs and this was exactly how I satisfied a customer issue like this.)

If they are dumb enough to not help you, you'll have to deal with it through Canon -- but they'll replace it for you.

Good Luck!
