Firmware upgrade to GE-Thomson 28310 2 in 1 Skype/Landline phone
I just bought a GE brand Thomson model 28310 phone. I love the way it works with the base station and handset so I can get to Skype without having my computer turned on.
My problem is it came loaded with Version 101 of the firmware and I want to upgrade it to the latest version. It keeps saying "New software available for download" so I select Install and watch as it downloads Version 224. The instructions say to be patient since "The update typically lasts 15-60 minutes." So I leave it alone and come back in a couple hours.
It doesn't look like the upgrade is successful. When I select Firmware update off the Advenced menu, it still shows Current Firmware Version as 101. It lists Version 224 as the Latest Firmware but shouldn't the Current Version be 224?

This sounds like a problem with your actual Skype account and not your physical phone. You can use Skype normally, but "Skype Out" (calling land lines) costs money, and the system doesn't seem to think you have any credit on your account.
1) Check your configuration on the phone and double check the Skype account username is the one you have credit on.
2) Login to Skype on a computer with the same account. Call someone's land line and confirm a call can connect.
If you can't connect to a land line there (but your Skype account shows you have credit), contact Skype support - there's something wrong on their end that they will have to fix.
If you can connect just fine, try clearing and resetting the user account settings on the phone. If it still doesn't work, try connecting it to a different network (go to Starbucks and use their wifi or something).
I see the same thing and it appears that this is the way it works. Without the landline you will get the beeps but can still make and recv calls. After the beeps, dial #1#phone-number#, and it will call that number. Guess that is what they mean when say works without landline.
Hi zappawo, This is impossible with the Philips VOIP321. A design flaw. You have to live with it or buy another one, like the GE/Thomson GE21878. I bought the GE with this question in mind. The GE does take over the calls from the screen to the handset. As it should be. Best regards, Fred email@example.com
