Re: Magellan RoadMate 2000
Your best bet is to contact Magellan directly. Their website is not the easiest place I've ever navigated. I did not see a specific listing for the Roadmate 2000, but when I queried them about upgrades for your unit, the response was Roadmate 2000/2200T. Manuals are available, but again nothing was noted about supporting the 2000. I've provided their phone # is below. Good luck.
There are no updates or upgrades for this unit. I spent 2 hours with "tech support" trying to understand the India version of English and finally was able to acertain that the unit is what it is no way to update the maps or the unit. I will never buy magellan again. What a waste of money - especially since the power supplies go dead after about 10 months.
THEIR ARE NO UPDATES FOR THE ROADMATE 2000, DUE TO THE FACT I THINK IT'S THE LEAST EXPENSIVE GPS MAGELLAN OFFERS AND IT WOULDN'T BE COST EFFICIENT TO MAKE UPGRADES AVAILABLE. I OWN A 2000, AND OCCASSIONALLY I GOOGLE THE FOLLOWING "MAGELLAN ROADMATE 2000 UPDATES," AND THE 1ST HIT YOU GET WILL TELL YOU IF/WHEN UPDATES WILL BECOME AVAILABLE IN THE FUTURE.

There is no longer any map updates or accessories available for the Roadmate 2000.
Magellan has obsoleted this unit and no longer has support for it or any accessories.
I talked to them online as well as on the phone.
So basically when you get the message on your Magellan Roadmate 2000 that you maps are out of date and your unit no longer functions correctly because of this, there is no fix and the unit is now a useless paper weight.
And there are no sites online that has any software to upgrade maps for this unit.
So keep your plugs because they work on other units, but take a baseball bat and hit a home run with your roadmate 2000.
Thats all its worth now.
You have to first go online and search Magellan Contact Manager to download that software to manage your device. Once that is done, you connect your device and register it. Then on the menu choose Help and "check for updates". There will be a scan and the available updates for software, maps etc will show, as will their cost if any.
When available, map updates can be purchased from the Magellan website.

I had exact same 'Magellan 5045 frozen' problem. Here is how I fixed it. Go to www.magellangps.com/contentmanager. Download and install Magellan Content Manager. Plug in your GPS. If content manager does not activate automatically, start it manually, like any other windows program or by right clicking on its icon. You will be asked to register your device and its serial number, etc. After registering, if Content Manager fails to take you directly to the download location for your device, along the top of the Magellan web pages you will see a set of tabs, one of those is 'Support'. This is a pull-down menu. Select Manuals and Software update. This then takes you to their 'Support' web page. On the support web page, click on the 'Manuals and Software Downloads' button. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to select from four Download Categories. For the roadmate 5045 and similar gps intended to be used in an auto, select 'Magellan Vehicle Navigation'. This will take you to another page where you will have to select from three product series. For the 5045 series, select 'Roadmate Series'. This is another pulldown where you will have to select your product number, e.g., Roadmate 5045. This will finally take you to a page where you can select software and map updates. You will have to connect your Roadmate gps to your computer via USB and you will have to register. It is confusing because you will get incorrect and irrelevant statements like your device failed to register. It is somewhat quirky but if you follow the instructions and you have a wideband cable or FIOS internet connection, the upgrade to the software and the maps takes about 30 minutes. Do unplug your RoadMate from the USB unless asked to do so by the Content Manager program. After the software and maps update, the Roadmate 5045 worked like better than new for me.
Yes you can:

As for connecting it to the computer, you'll need the usb cable that came with it. Then you'll want to do this:
Follow these steps to connect your Magellan RoadMate to your PC.
According to Magellan at their website, a new map update will be available next month (sometime).
There is a firmware update there now. The firmware update works fine if you follow their instructions.....full battery charge etc.
