It sounds like the lock switch on the SD card is in the wrong position. Take the card out and move the switch away from the locked position and re-install it.

What is mesage "memory card write protected " in nikon coolpix4500

It means that the camera 'thinks' that the Memory Card in the camera has been switched to 'Write Protect ON". If there is no Camera Menu Item to override this function then remove the memory card from the camera and check along the edge. You should find a small black or grey slider button that will move. Hopefully it will be labeled for Write protect ON and OFF.
Reinsert the adjusted card and see what happens. If the error persists then try another card. This link might help:

Good luck.

Mesage "unable to use card"

SD Memory Cards have a write-protect switch to prevent image
data from being deleted. By sliding the switch to the bottom of
the card, the data will be protected. images cannot be recorded
when the card is protected. If an attempt is made to record or
delete an image with the camera, the card-locked message will
appear on the monitor.

When i put memory card in it comes up write protect can you tell me why and how do i get rid of it

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera or the type of your memory card, so I'm assuming you have an SD or SDHC card.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How do i get rid of my write protection on on the sd card

Hi,

Wecome to Fixya. Memory card has a slide switch on the side or along the edges, you just have to slide it to get rid of the write protection on your memory card. Just remember that if the position nearest on the contacts is already removed the write protection on the SD card.

Thank you for using Fixya,

When camera is turned on "PROTECTED CARD" comes

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My camera keeps telling me that my memory card is full. I only have 14 photos in there and no smart card....how do I figure this out.

Are you saying that you have no memory card in the camera and it is telling you that the memory is full? If so, then the "internal memory" of the camera is full. If you want to use a memory card in the camera, you must get rid of the pics in the internal memory by formatting it with no card in the camera.

Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera keeps giving me a memory card error. The memory card is a 4gig PNY memory card (lower budget)

Make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is unlocked. Your camera may just want you to format the card in the camera. Download any pics from it first using a card reader if necessary.

What does 'Write Protect' mean and how do I get rid of it?

That means that your SD card (or whichever memory card you use) is write protected and you cannot edit the card's content in any way.

Take your memory card out of the camera and plug it into your computer. There should be a place for you to change the memory card's protections that way. Sometimes, as with USB drives, there might be a small sliding lock physically located on the card which will also write protect the device.

The card you bought for the camera is not compatible with your camera! (just because it fits and looks the same does not make it a match!) try useing a regular sb card and return the high proformance card!
