So I put the old one back on and now the ds wont turn on .The green lite flashes then the bottom screen then off. Before I took it apart the bottom screen came up just like it should and the top screen was just white. Now when I turn it on it goes off.I have a new battery. When you plug it in to the wall the orange light comes on but the ds still does not turn on.

Hi,

It's all to do with the top screen... What happens is that when you turn the DS lite on it performs a quick check on the screens to make sure they are connected properly, if one or both are not connected properly then the unit will shut down.
The flashing of the screen shows you that that particular screen is fine whereas the one that does nothing is not connected properly, either through a loose connection or faulty screen/ ribbon.

Your best bet is to buy a new top screen (I usually get mine from ebay for around £10-£12) and fit it. That should sort out your issue.

Any further problems or questions feel free to message me via my profile page.

In simple terms a orange light that goes out quickly when trying to start is usually a fuse and easy to fix, by bridging or repacing a fuse. When the green light goes out and one of the screen flashes that usually indicates a loose connection or damaged screen or ribbon. This type of problem is more involved and could require ordering a screen,(but first check the ribbon connection). There are many good instructional videos on youtube. So get your Y screwdriver and good luck.

When i turn my ds lite on the touch screen blinks and shuts off

either a fuse has gone or the screen is sorting out on the motherboard. check youtube for instructions on how to fix fuses, or if you have had a new screen put some insulation tape on the back of it.
Other possible causes can be a fault with the top screen so investigate tat too. the ribbon cables can tear

DS Lite Top Screen Replacement

Hi,

Has your top screen devlouped a fault or stopped working altogether? Here is my guide to re-connecting a new top screen and fitting a new one.

Take the DS lite apart (a tri wing screwdriver is needed and can be found cheap on ebay), disconnect the top screen by lifiting the motherboards connector flap (located near the hindge) and then re-insert it, try switching it on again and see if thats sorted it. If not then you will need to replace the screen. (If you need help taking the DS lite apart then check out my other tips and tricks posted on here).

A new screen can be brought on ebay for a reasonable price, there will be a little soldering required as the speakers will need to be de-soldered from the old screen and re-soldered onto the new one (please take note of which wire goes where).

Remove the screws from the lid of the DS lite (4x screws hidden under little coloured squares above and below both speaker outlets) slide the top/outer part away from the hindges, it will move about 5mm and then you can lift it off... Gently pull the ribbon through the hindge so that it is free from the bottom part of the DS lite, pry the screen away from the shell (a small amount of force may be required to remove it) remove the front plastic part of the screen (with the respective DS lite coloured frame, de-solder the speakers, re-attatch them to the new screen, place the new screen into the housing along with the speakers and put back the wifi and mic to their original position if they got moved, you will notice a slot in the hindge where the ribbon goes in, this is for the ribbon to easily slide back into the bottom part of the DS lite... pop the ribbon through and then re-attatch it to the motherboard with the connector, pressing down the connectors flap.

Screw the DS lite back together, after this you will need to place the plastic sheet with the respective DS lite coloured frame back onto the top screen... The reason you don't put it on any time before that is if you put it on prior to putting the new screen in place you will have great difficulty trying to get it correctly aligned.

If you find that your DS lite now doesn't want to stay powered on please refer to my other tips and tricks I have issued on here.

I hope this helps and have to say that I accept no responsability for any damage that may occur to your DS lite when following these tips.

I replaced the bottom screen in a friends Nintendo DS lite, because she broke it. Then the DS would only turn on for a second and then turn off, the Charger would not charge. After searching on the...

there are 2 fuses you obviously didnt insulate the bottom screen so it doesnt short out on the circuit board look at the one you took out and look at the one you put in difference is one has a backing insulation
did you blob them with solder (definatly not a good thing to do) if you did everything correctly and im wrong try this
the second thing is which every one does they never push the ribbon cable fully home (top and bottom screen) needs to seat all the way in really all the way if this helps give us a tick so to help others good luck

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from http://wiinewz.com/forums/nds-general-discussion/72805-ds-top-screen-white-blank.html this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps
