If you’re not sure what file or application is causing the problem, you’ll need to perform a hard reset. Before you do this, be sure to perform a HotSync so your data is properly backed up (the hard reset will erase all data on the PDA). To perform a hard reset, press the power button while performing a soft reset. Replace the power button when you see the Palm/PalmOne logo and press the Up button when prompted.

Next, find your Backup folder on the desktop. You’ll usually find this folder located within your user folder, which is usually located in either C:\Program Files\Palm, C:\Program Files\palmOne, or C:\Program Files\Handspring. Your personal folder will resemble the user name you selected for your device. If you used your first and last name, for instance, your user folder will likely be the first six letters of your first name followed by the first letter of your last name. Rename the Backup file to Backup.old and HotSync your Palm to restore personal data. Because you renamed your Backup folder, no applications or additional files will be restored at this point. Instead, an empty new Backup folder will appear. Move applications from your Backup.old folder into the new Backup folder one at a time and HotSync your Palm. After each HotSync, try to reproduce the problem. If the problem doesn’t reappear, move on to the next file. Delete any files that cause a problem after they are moved onto your PDA.

Enjoy! Pls.rate me if it's done. Thanks.

Kindly regards,
-micro

My computer crashed. I have a backup of all my Palm files but am having trouble recovering them. Does anyone have instructions on how to restore backup files on a Palm Tungsten E2?

Hello.

Palm backups are located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Palm\username>\ED\Backup\

When you HotSync a PDA that has undergone a hard reset, HotSync will compare the two devices. When it sees that the PDA is empty, it will attempt to reload any backup that exists on the PC. Once this data is reloaded, the PDA will ask to do a soft reset. This is simply a restart of the device and doesn't affect any of the newly installed data. This returns the PDA to working order, with all the data and programs functioning as they were before.

Hope this resolves your problem.

Tip

Visor Deluxe does not start

Hi.

The procedure below shows how to reset the PDA to factory settings after backing up all your personal data.
After backing up your data with HotSync, perform a hard reset, this will erase all applications and returns your device to its factory default settings.

To perform a hard reset:
1. Hold down the power button on the front panel of the PDA.
2. While holding down the power button, use a paper clip to press the reset button.
3. Release the power button.
4. You will get a message warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on the PDA, do the following:
Press the top scroll button on the front panel
to complete the hard reset and display the startup screen.
If you press any other button you will do a soft reset, that will not fix the problem. In that case restart the procedure.
5. After doing hard reset the unit will return to the initial factory state. All third party installed applications will be deleted, and setting will be reported to factor default.

.

Connect to HotSync and do a backup of the PDA, then do hard reset on Palm.

If the PDA is not detected by Hotsync, then there is an additional problem.

To troubleshoot problems given by third party application you do a backup, then rename the backup folder containing third party application data to Backup.old, and do hard reset.

After that you start restoring applications from backup.old one at the time, when one application jams the Palm, that is the responsible for the error message.

Procedure is described here.

Regards.

I cannot sync my Palm Tungsten E with MS Outlook.

  1. Step 1 Install the Palm Tungsten software. This software is required in order to sync Palm Tungsten with Outlook Express. To install the software, place the CD-ROM in your PC and follow the on screen instructions.
  2. Step 2 Use the HotSync cable included with your Palm to plug into the USB port of your PC. You will then plug the other end of the cable into your Palm Tungsten.
  3. Step 3 Open the HotSync Manager program on your PC through the "Start" menu or clicking on the icon. You can manage the different programs available for synchronization through this program. Select Microsoft Outlook as one of the applications that you want synched onto your Palm Tungsten.
  4. Step 4 Turn on the Palm Tungsten. You will see a star icon on the menu of your PDA. Tap this star with your stylus to start syncing Microsoft Outlook Express. A dialog box will appear on your PC during the process to know the progress of the synchronization.
  5. Step 5 Unplug the cable from your PC and Palm Tungsten once the sync is completed. As the Palm resets, you will now notice that Microsoft Outlook Express is available on the PDA.

My sony CLIE PEG-SJ20 is not compatible with Vista. Is there some mechanism I can install that will make it work with Vista?

I had the same problem with my clie peg-sj20 on my vista home basic based laptop. I could not hotsync after installing the original software. I've never tried to use my pda with this setup before so I was trying to find a way to make it work when I found this post, figured I would reply with what I found.
My Sony clie peg-sj20 runs the Palm o.s. 4.1 software and apparently Sony no longer supports this model. So after trying to hotsync and letting the Windows vista install wizard find the proper software, it suggested contacting the manufacturer of the operating system. I went to the Palm websight and downloaded the Palm o.s. 6.2 software which is compatible with vista, even though it doesn't say it supports the sj20. After installing it I performed a hotsync during setup when I was prompted to do so, and it totally worked. I'm not sure if this version works with other applications but it enabled me to hotsync running vista.
Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck.

you may want to run through a few troubleshooting tricks
first try pulling out any extra USB type items that you remove and replace frequently (like a flash drive) and restart your computer after its done booting up you can try hotsyncing again. Make sure what you wanted to put on your PDA is still in the Hotsync manager box.
A PDA not wanting to hotsync is a very general statement. It is an indicator for many different problems.
-You may need a new hotsync cable
-try a different usb port on your computer
-you could open the PDA up and check if all the contacts are clean and connected (Warranty void alert)
-Try re-installing the PAlm desktop software
-If nothing else works put whatever application you're trying to hotsync onto a SD card and copy it from the card and onto the PDA

Tungsten Es are excellent PDAs and it doesn't have too many problems besides being too "basic". A problem like not hot syncing probably isn't an indicator of something really bad unless you've dropped it too many times.
If all else fails you may need to pick up a different PDA
