Show hidden files

to unhide file extensions to see what you have in XP open my computer (or windows explorer) Tools/Folder Options/View change 'Do not show hidden files and folders' to 'Show hidden files and folders' uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' if you wish you can uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'

to unhide file extensions in win7, vista go to my computer (or windows explorer) Organize/folder and search options/view change 'Do not show hidden files and folders' to 'Show hidden files and folders' uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' if you wish you can uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'

In win8 I'm not sure how to get to it unless you change to show classic view somehow

Dvd drive is full of files but only shows a empty file folder, how do you open the file

The folder might contain a lot of what are called "hidden files"

To view hidden files, press the "Alt" key in your explorer window and go to "View -> Folder Options"
Then navigate to the View tab and under advanced settings select "Show hidden files and folders"

Or:

Go to the Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Folder options -> View -> Advanced settings -> Show hidden files and folders

That should fix it

I want to get the contents inside the recovery folder. as i think it is a hidden folder. i want to get the contents. plz hlp me..

I'm guessing you're using Windows.

I'll take a stab at general directions since you didn't state which one. Right click on the folder the files are in, get to the properties or preferences entry. Check off the "Show hidden files"

Or it could be open the folder where you think the files are and right click on a empty spot in the folder. again you're looking for "show hidden files"

Hello CyberGuru

its not from microsoft explorer, you have to be inside folder then hit tools and folder options and show or hide files.
Windows XP

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

Double-click on the My Computer icon.

Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

After the new window appears select the View tab.

Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.

Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.

Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.

Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files

if it doesnot work use spyware software to fix it.

When clicking on the star, the history shows up but..

My Computer > C:\ (System Volume, Boot Volume, Windows) > The Documents and Settings folder > User Name Folder > Local Settings Folder > History.

If the Local Settings Folder is not visible in the UserName Folder you have to enable show hidden files:

While at the folder goto Menu at top Tools > Folder Options > View > Select the radio button for "Show Hidden Files"

If the user is using Firefox, then may have already selected not to save the browsing history, without advanced tools this information is not accessible.

If the user is using Internet Explorer, History will display unless they have selected to save the files for a period of "0" days, newer versions may even have the ability to not save at all.

Check the History folder to be certain.

Good luck.

Hidden files and folder not show.

Most likely, you either have a virus or a domain policy restricting the viewing of hidden files.

Here's an easy fix:
1) Go to Start>Run
2) Type "regedit" and click "OK"
3) Expand to HK_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>Advanced
4) Select the value on the right named "Hidden". Right-click and "Modify".
5) On most virus/policy restricted computers, it will have a value of 2, which it shouldn't because it should only be 0 or 1. Change the value to "1" and click "OK".
6) Refresh whatever window you were working in, and it should show you all the hidden files. It will show for all your windows after that until you go to options to change it.
