Question about Kodak EasyShare LS743 Digital Camera
My camera won't show an image to take a picture. I do not have a camera screen. It is an all black screen and when I take a picture it is black. I have never had a problem with the camera and I had taken an 3 yr. extended warranty that just expired 12/12/07. Now I have a problem. I have charged the batteries, as I have 2 (one for back up). The pictures that are in my camera look good. I just can't take new ones. I tried to reset by turning off and turning back on. did not work; I tried to reset the "Liveview" to "On" as the manual shows. It is set to "On". Last weekend I used the camera and the weather was very damp due to rain but I kept my camera in the case when it was not in use. Could it be something due to humidity? How can I fix it?

I have fixed several Kodak models including this one with exactly the same problem. Sometimes tapping on the side will fix it temporally. The fix is to open the back of the camera and snap the connector from the lens. If the camer is dropped the connector can come unsnapped. You should only attempt this if you have had some experence working on electronics. Be careful inside the camera especially in the upper right corner which is where the high voltage is for the flash. You can get a large shock from this camera if your not careful.

I have the exact problem. I came on slowly, some days it would work, some days it wouldnt. Finally i couldnt get it working at all. Sent it back to Kodak as it was still under warranty, the repair center claims it was "physical damage". They admit that the camera shows no evidence of falling or banging but it doesnt matter. The camera was lightly used only by my wife, she took good care of it. I'm currently fighting with Kodak, they are requesting photos from the repair center, so they claim. I think its lost cause, but we'll see.

Fixing your problem could be as simple as cleaning the battery contacts
in the camera, or the solution could be a lot more complex and
expensive. Here's a link to the Kodak Help Center - it provides a
simple Q&A format to diagnose the problem and propose a solution.

If the camera has recently been dropped you may have lens damage that is preventing the camera from properly powering up or powering down. If it hasn't been dropped, your
may be due to corrosion on the battery
contacts inside the camera which can
prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera.
Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and
wipe the camera contacts firmly with
a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush,
steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen
into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of
the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge. This cleaning clears
the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have
a problem that requires professional repair.
If this response helps, please post a rating for me. A rating of "Very Helpful" would be appreciated . .
