Disc tray doesn´t open, no help from previous answers
Have tried the same. Also with the "up"button and stop at the same time, no button works when power on. Shows "self check" and makes pulsating sounds from disc department. The disc might have been put in upside down, and might also be burned with a neighbours dvd-burner. Never had this problem before. DMR-ES10EP-S serial nr: vw5ie002491 bought about 2 years ago, very little used, mostly away, holiday appartment. kind reg Lennart

Re: disc tray doesn´t open, no help from previous answers
One thing you can try is to disassemble unit and remove tray section . on the underneath side of tray is a plastic gear that will allow you to manually bring out the tray thus removing the dvd . then put back together and see if it works ok . Or just may only have to remove the spindle adaptor on the top of the dvd with the screws on the side that hold it down . then remove the dvd , put back together and try . Some disc's that a dvd player cannot read properly can cause the system to lock up as you described . Good luck
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

With the unit turned off, press and hold the [STOP] and [CHANNEL UP] buttons on the main unit at the same time for about 5 seconds. (Ejection may take extra time depending on discs.)
DO THIS ON THE MAIN UNIT (NOT on the remote)
It worked well for me. Roget
What could be done is to leave the set Switched ON for many hours even overnight and see how it can change if there is a possible fault on the motherboard, a change of value in electrolytic capacitors. If there is no result then there is fault in the motherboard and you need to take consensus for an estimate.
On fornt of the player you have the buttons for opreation. You can use these buttons to operate your DVD player with out remote.
I have attached a image for your BD-P1600 player so your reference

I have the same problem. What I do is push my hand down firmly on top of the DVD Recorder above the tray and while doing this press the open button. If this doesn't work get a screwdriver and poke it into the sides of the tray and pull it away. I find that the first method works best! XD
Press 'Disc Menu' and wait for 'no disc' to appear on the screen. Eject the tray by pressing the 'open / close' button on front of the recorder. Enter the following numbers very slowly on the remote control ' 0086000 ' Press ' OK ' button on your remote control. Close the tray by pressing ' open / close ' button on the front of the recorder. You can check this has worked by pressing ' 0009 OK ' on your remote after the tray has closed. A display will pop up on screen showing the Region as 0. This means you should be able to play discs from all Regions. If this doesn't work the first time! try again! Hope this helps!!
In order to open the disc tray.apply one of the following solutions; --- Turn off the DVD player. Unplug the power
cord from the AC outlet for 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back
into the AC outlet. Try to open the disc tray. --- If the disc
tray still does not open, simultaneously press the POWER + STOP + EJECT
--- If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the DISC1 +
STOP + EJECT buttons , --- If the disc tray still does not open simultaneously press the RETURN + ENTER+ POWER buttons. If the problem is still unresolved, a service may be required. good luck...
I'm pretty sure the force disk eject is the same across all Panasonic models - however I couldn't find anything specific for your model number. Still worth a shot, though.
With the unit in standby, press and hold the 'Stop' and 'Ch up' buttons together. It should power up and force the tray open. If this doesn't work, try changing up your timing by pressing and holding 'Stop' first, then a half-second later, press and hold 'Ch up' and keep them both held together. You can also try the opposite.
If none of these work, it will have to be taken apart to get the disc out. If you aren't comfortable trying, it will have to go to service.
First, make sure the DVD Recorder is completely disconnected from the Main Supply.
Then, if you look on the base of the unit, (just underneath the front of the Disc Insert/Eject Tray), there is a small slot, (approx 25 x 8mm), in which you can see a small, white, plastic lever probably situated near the right-hand side of the slot.
Then move this lever gently to the left, and then turn it on and the tray opens by pushing the button.
