Thank you, Sears said they don't sell the belt, a $2 itme, you have to replace the whole unit, $19. The belt should be a consumable item, it is very easy to access and replace. I have the part number of the belt, HTD2M-160, but haven't been able to find out who the manufacturer is.

The vacuum is a Kenmore, 72126823600 and the Handimate jr is 5249FI1432D.

    Thanks - John

Thank you, Eureka sounds like a possible solution.

I'm having the same problem - the tiny belt stretches and Sears wants to charge $25 for a whole new Handi-mate jr. Is there a corresponding Eureka part number?

Same problem. I spoke to a nice lady at 1 877-531-7321, the number posted on the vacuum. She works for Panasonic, the actual manufacturer of the unit. She was not able to tell me where to locate a replacement belt but said she would "ship one out" to me. Hopefully, she will be able to.

Need to know brand and model number, but if this is a Sears, then go to, click on the parts link, put in your complete model number, then you can get the belt thru that web site.

On some items they will do this, it is a replaceable item, not deemed repairable. You could take the old belt and go around to different repair shops to see if you can find one the right size. Eureka has alot of small belts, cogged and flat, you may find one at a place that has a good selection of Eureka belts. The number on the belt may be just a manufacture or vendor number and not a good part number.

Only through a Hoover warranty/ service center if still available. If not save your hose ends and find a different hose with adaptable ends

My handi-mate Jr. is not spinning anymore. What should I do to fix it?

Assuming you don't have a broken belt, you can pretty much completely disassemble the Handimate and clean it out, which should fix "it won't spin any more." Part of the cleaning procedure is pretty obvious - there are tabs on the side that hold the top onto the bottom. Just lift the side flaps on the top section that surround the tabs to release the top section. Pay attention to how the thing is put together so you can reassemble it - there aren't many parts - it's not rocket science. Now the part that's not obvious: it's not too hard to pull the axle out of the cylinder to which the brushes are attached. Gunk, hair and fibers can get caught under the white end caps and around the axle.

Kenmore Model 116 PowerMate Jr stopped working

If the roller brush is not spinning freely once you remove it from the Power Mate Jr., then I have discovered the solution! There are end caps at each end of the roller brush. They seem to be permanently attached, but they are not. There is an axle inside the roller that is permanently attached to one of the caps. Take two pairs of pliers, and grab each end cap with a pair of pliers. Then pull hard to take them off. Once they are off, you will find that there is a big glob of hair wrapped around the axle inside. Remove the hair. Then reassemble the brush by putting the end caps back on. Make sure, when you put the caps back, that they are aligned so that they will fit back into the slots on the Power Mate Jr. You have to push hard to get the caps back on, maybe tapping one of them with pliers.
