If the dvd has Regional Code Enhancement (RCE), you might try the solution for the problem posted as "UNLOCK REGION CODE FOR PHILIPS DVP3140 DVD PLAYER " , that was listed just after this problem, only set the code as 1 instead of 0.
Don't know if it will work, but it might be worth a shot.
I'm afraid that this is not a solution, but a possible explanation.
It's called Regional Code Enhancement. Some US region 1 dvds have it and they will not work in most multi-region dvd players.
I don't know a lot about it, I've just come across it recently, but unless you can manually switch your dvd player's region code from region 0 to region 1 (and, of course, back to region 0 when you are done watching the dvd), you will not be able to watch some US dvds.

I don't think it would play on your DVD Player unless you DVD Player is "region-free" or "multi-region". Region 1 discs are intended for use with standard DVD players in North America (Canada and the USA). In most instances they can also be played on compatible "multi-region" DVD players (also known as "chipped" or "region-free" players).
Change your region to multi-region so it can play discs from any region but please check the instruction manual to ensure that changing the region does not void the manufacturers warranty.
Turn the DVD player on, and press "open" on the remote control or on the machine itself.
Press this code into the remote: 789
Press OK, then press 0. A "0" should appear in the lower left side of the screen. For Phillips, zero is the code number for multi-region. In place of the zero, you can also press the number of the specific region you want to play.
To change the region on the Philips dcp750 1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray 2. Press the Setup button on your remote control 3. Press the Right button on your remote control 4. Press the Right button on your remote control 5. Press the Right button on your remote control 6. Press the 9 button on your remote control 7. Press the 6 button on your remote control 8. Press the 5 button on your remote control 9. Press the 3 button on your remote control 10. Using the Up and Down buttons on your remote control, change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 0 for multi-region playback 11. Press the Setup button on your remote control
if its saying wrong region. then either your player or disk is incompatable. region 1 ntsc ( USA ) Region 2 ( UK ) et,c. check your players region coding is compatable for your country, and that you are also playing a dvd with the same region coding as the player. alternatively is to try and find a region free or multi-region solution.
Mike @ Compurepair.
DVDs are ecoded with region codes to indicate what area of the world they are made for. These codes may be 1,2,3, etc depending on which region they are made for.
DVD player read these codes and if the disc region code does not match the region the device is made for, the player will not play the disc.
Region 1 is for USA so most DVDp players made for use in USA require region 1 discs.
Some DVD players called multi region DVD players can be set to play different region DVDs but they are typically more expr=ensive then one region players and the code must be changed each time a different region disc is played.
it depends on whether the drive is multi-region ?
Some drives are region Set, i.e Region 1 ( NTSC-USA )
Region 2 ( UK PAL )
Most Players Are Region Set, To the country they are purchased in, you can sometimes set the player to become, multi-region, via various buttons on the remote or by the front panel.
I offer a service to unlock 99% of DVD Players, to play all or many regions.
We do have a charge for this Service.
Many Thanks mike @ Compurepair.
