what do these micro/pico fuses look like and what should they read?

  • knicks Feb 29, 2008

how to test the cpu convergance board ? also is their a way to bring all service adjustments back to factory default

  • knicks Mar 01, 2008

can u explain in more detail how to check the voltages on the ics and yes i guess i did use the cheap parts ordered them from electronic parts for 6.99 a piece. I can move all the points in the convergence setting page and they line up good but it does not improve picture when i leave convergence screen. if i can line up the convergance points on the convergance setting page does that rule out the ic being bad
thanks any help is much appreciated

Well budy, welcome to the real world of problem after problem even though you were there other problem start, Ah what in
H%$# did I become a tech.
First did you replace the stk with cheap china part's,
second have you check the vcc at the input of the chip, +/- about 25 volt.
The redish problem is adjudtment to the tint, here how you adjust this take colour off, then adjust screen to 80% and brighness to 40% and adjusting the screen control slowly to get perfect black and white without getting drive line. YOU Don't want drive line this is over driving the grides on the crt's this is located in the front of the screen a box about 4" x 4" x 1" deep and has about 9 wires that goes to it.
Now have you tampered with the aligment of the crt's nut screw well don't I Mean Don't.This is Focus only if you need it.
Next go to the menue (Service Menu) and do the aligment beleave me it's not easy and it will P%$# you off this is on page 46

Here is the schematic hope it help's

Last or you shure it's not your CPU convergence board, this is the board that stick out on the main board,

What About Bob
I know if you do the convergence alignment it should solve your problem. let me know

HI, The pico fuses looks like resistors but black with wrighting on them.

Check first if the voltages on the ic's or there, If they or then it's not the fuses, but aligment. There is no way of testing the convergence board cpu. To know if it is deffective go to the aligment on page 46 and see if you can do any alinment and stord it in memory. If the adjustment or made and stay's in the memory then the convergence cpu is working.

You will notice it is very hard to do the convergence, it take's hr's about 4 to 8 hr's if not use to. Then at this point you will understand why the term respect to technician or stronger then before.

    What about Bob

Well go to the attachement, go to section 10.3 open section 1 there you will see the two convegence it's, enlarge it to 150% at pin 1 and 4 you should read -18v and + 18 volt. To know if they or working go to the PTV menue, and go the screen adjustment, if they adjust, then you know they or repaire.

What other problem you may have if you can't adjut a perfect picture, well that is when you went on the first attachent on page 46 and tried to get full picture, and wasn't able to get 100%. You will have to send me a picture so I know what your problem would be. If for some reason it doesn't keep it's memory then the cpu board (the little board on the side) would be deffective.

If you want to send me a picture send it to and the tech would be happy to help .

Check the micro/pico fuses as well found around the same area where the resistors and STK ICs are.

I have a 53 inch hitachi ultravision #53UDX10B Its out of focus and when you press the magic focus button it trys then pops up with the # 4 in the corner is this a convergence problem or what ?

Yes, you have a convergence failure. Usually requires replacement of 2 X STK ICs and any burnt resistors associated with the function that is faulty.

Look at the user menu and compare with images on our Convergence Gallery. Try to adjust in the convergence adjust menu. Identify the functions that do not work and make note. When you replace the ICs, pay special attention to the low ohm resistors for the non-working function. They will be located near the colored plug associated with the non-working function. If red vertical will not adjust, check resistors near the red plug.

There are many posts and websites that offer "new and improved Convergence IC substitutes. My advice is to use the original part numbers and replace any burnt resistors with original values. Many ICs purchased on the Internet are very poor quality and do not work. Many users get substitute replacement ICs and never get their TVs working again.

If you have other electronics repair experience, this job may be done with some chance of success. If you have no experience, there are many secondary problems that can and usually do appear. Determining how to fix the secondary faults and how to correctly align the TV is difficult without prior convergence repair experience.

Some of the common problems encountered are:
1. Poor solder techniques, resulting in damaged PC boards or poor solder connections.
2. Poor quality or wrong parts installed and recognizing this problem.
3. Resistors open or burnt. Some resistors are weakened by the initial faulty IC. Replacing with a "good" IC and starting the TV causes the weakened resistors to burn up. IC may be ok but there are one or more open resistors that measured ok when ICs were being replaced.
4. Wrong ICs used, causing resistors to burn up.
5. Resistors that measure normal and become faulty when heated by current flow.
6. Recognizing that convergence circuit is repaired correctly and alignment is needed.
7. Major alignment in service menu required because data is corrupted by multiple tries of magic focus or manual adjustment while faulty circuit conditions exist.
8. Major alignment required because user adjusted centering rings or physically changed mechanical focus adjustment, then mis-adjusted convergence settings trying to correct mechanical alignment faults.
9. User has not connected plugs and connectors correctly and caused secondary damage or mis-alignment trying to correct secondary issue.

Physically replacing the ICs may appear simple but recognizing if a fault still exists or if correct repair is required causes many attempts at repair to fail. Keep it simple. Replace with good quality original part numbers, measure suspect resistors and adjust only what is necessary.

There are only 3 things to fix, IC failure, resistor failure and user induced secondary faults. Data processor and memory is bulletproof.

Check all the resistors that are connected to the stks especially the 3 that have same values, resolder if required. Also use a magnifing glass to check on embedded resistors on the soldering side of pcb. you may have unknowing desoldered one of them or caused shorting. These will be small ant size blackish rectangular resistors. most DIY people mess them up. Some tvs may have them too close to the stk terminals and require careful desoldering and soldering while replacing the stks. vote if it helps and thanks if you voted. check out

The screen seems to have two of the same image, green and red.

The fix is to replace the two Convergence IC's( STK392-110's) with STK392-150's. They are located to the right side of the chassis and mounted to large heat sinks. Be also on the look out for some burnt resisters and or discolored resistors that failed becuase of the IC's failing. These would be located just to the left of the heat sinks. If they are burnt or severly discolored, you will need to replace them with the exact valued resistors. In this high current circuit it is a must.
I hope this helps,

50H82 red wavy convergence (stks didn't fix)

If the tin can module you are referring to is the hyper module, it is common to replace all 11 caps because the factory caps ****. Check for bridged solder connections at STK's search the forum at electromaniacs for 50h81 :)

Blue light (RGB) will not converge (Toshiba 50H72)

Look around the area of the STKs and you should see some low valued resistors. One lead of which will be attached to the STKs. One or more of these is open. Replace it/them and you should be fine. These are current limiting resistors (effectively fuses) for the power to the STKs. One of them is not getting power.

Red convergence is bad.

Hi, you need to change the convergence ICs , STKs: and some resistors, low values; , after changing them, you will have to go into the service mode, to do some adjustments.that's it.

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
