Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum Logo
Anonymous Posted on Feb 22, 2010

Placing the handle of my Dyson DC07 into its upright and locked position causes the beater bar to stop turning. It will not start turning until the handle is first lowered to the working position and the Carpet/Bare knob is moved to the Bare Floor position and then back to the Carpet position. Then the beater bar turns until the handle is placed into the upright position. What might be the problem?

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the "on" position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran

We have a dyson dc14 and the beater bar stopped turning, we cleaned the bar off and checked the belt and it's not broken, I know I called Dyson a year or two ago and they told me how to reset the beater...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.

If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Beater bar doesn't turn

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Beater bar motor will not engage

Check your clutch to make sure it's engaged. There should be a knob on the foot of the vacuum that can be turned to stop the roller.

Belt wont turn makes a loud noise when put on carpet setting

If this is a Dyson with a protected belt that can't be replaced then it will have to be sent out to Dyson or get a Dyson servicepersonnel to check it over - protected belt motors are difficult to fix by yourself. If its clicking all the time, then it means the belt has to be replaced. In the mean time check that there are no obstructions on the beater bar and behind it and also check that the brush stop roller at the top of the hood is in the right position. It should move automatically when the handle is swung down in normal operation.

Beater Bar/Brush Won't Turn

Sometimes dust, lint and thread can work its way into the bearings on both ends, take the beater bar out and see if you can turn it in your hand,if it doesn't inspect the ends and clean them.Use what ever you can find to pull out the threads.Or take it outside and hose it off.

Beater bar does not work dyson DC07

If the beater bar does not spin freely, and the belt still seems to be in place, then you may not need a new clutch, but you may need to reset the clutch.  This is done very simply by keeping the beater bar section of the vacuum flat on the floor and reclining the handle all the way to the floor so the entire vacuum lays flat. There is a mechanism in the vacuum which resets the clutch. You will probably not hear anything when the clutch resets.  I sat on the phone for an hour and a half to hear this simple technique is built into the vacuum, but excluded from all instructions and website customer service information.
