Water valve has to be shut off at faucet to

Water valve has to be shut off at wall faucet to prevent tub from filling and flooding out into room when door is opened. Washer does not always spin all of the water out of the clothes (or possibly more water has just run in tub when clothes have not been removed immediately after wash).

This may be caused by a pressure switch malfunction or a water inlet valve that is leaking by. The following link explains how you can determine which one may be causing your problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

Is this a simple problem of the washer continuing to fill with water when its not in use? Does the washer overflow? Does the water shut off after the cycle ends? These are some good questions that can help lead you in the right direction.

Check the small air hose that runs from the bottom right hand side of the wash tub to the pressure swtich. If this hose has come loose from the pressure switch from the air dome on the wash tub, the pressure switch will not sense the pressure differential coming from the wash tub as the unit fills. Also, if the air hose is cracked, ripped, split, or clogged somewhere, you will get the same symptoms.

If the water inlet valve is determined to be the source of your problem, follow the steps provided in the link on how to replace one. These are simple and inexpensive repairs. I've also included web sources that you can refer to for part numbers.

If you need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps lead you in the right direction.

I have found that when I had this problem with water valves in washing Machines in the Launderettes that I serviced the problem was usually
that the water pressure was too low to keep the valve shut after the power was shut off by the timer, Due to A:clogged inlet filter B:spring inside the valve sticking due to corrosion or scale.
Strip the valve and clean.
More remotely...the timer giving a rogue electric feed from a faulty timer.
Hopes this helps.

The water will not go into tub, keeps overflowing and flooding my laundry room

If the water will stop filling when you stop the machine, then you need to replace the "pressure switch" on the unit. Here is the part to order.

If you have to turn the water off at the faucet to get it to stop filling, then you need to replace the "water inlet valve" on the unit. Here is that part to order.

I have a leak coming from the "cold" line right at the valve joint. There is signifigant calcuim build up on the pipe from the valve to the connection of the water heater, (maybe 8 inch of pipe)...

Very simple - call a Plumber. He will fix your plumbing problem, and any foreseen potential problems related to your water leak. He may also suggest replacing your 6 year old water heater. Of course ..... for a professional cost.
However, depending on your time, skills, proper tools, patience and luck, it's easy enough to perform yourself:
1. Switch off the water heater Breakers (220v) in your service panel.
2. Turn off the water supply to the water heater.
3. Attach a water hose to the drain faucet. ( a good time to flush sediment -calcium deposits)
4. Open a hot water faucet to vent (above the level of the water heater drain - kitchen sink)
5. Remove the suspected leak components. (a union connection is a good place to start)
6. Install New pipes -3 wrap all male threaded ends with teflon Tap. Tighten securely - using 2 wrenches.
NOTE: Before refilling - you can turn on the water heater supply valve for a few minutes, to flush out any lingering calcium debris.
7. Shut off drain valve - remove hose. Shut off venting hot water faucet.
8. Turn on water supply valve to fill water heater.
9. Open a hot water faucet to relieve air pressure while filling - preferably the bath tub faucet, it doesn't have a screen that might clog.
10. When water flows without air - shut off tub faucet.
11. Look for leaks.
12. Switch the water heater Breakers on.
Note: 50 gallons should take an hour or more to heat up. Turn on a hot water valve momentarily within this heat up time to relieve thermal expansion. ( the PT valve on your water heater will perform this task if pressures/temperature exceed new water heater tolerances - it's just a precaution to introduce these fluctuating pressures on your fragile 6 year old unit)

These are just basic instructions - assuming you fill in the common sense and work safe steps.
Good Luck - The Skill will only come after trying.

My GE washing machine keeps over filling, flooding the room if we don't stop it. Where is the mechanism that measures and turns of water?

If the machine starts to agitate and the water does not shut off replace the water inlet valve. Now if the machine fills and does not agitate, then clean the pressure sensor tubing and the line coming off the tub. Hope this helps Tim

I installed new moen shower valve i tested it before i put the walls up 6 months later finaly got done with bath room no water comes out now

During construction did you perhaps close off a shut off valve within the water line and not reopen it? If not do you hear anything at all when you turn the shower faucet on? Let me know.

Hello, On Neptune washer serial # 34098916EF, Washer tub fills with about 2 inches of water within hours after doing a wash. When I spin the tub by hand, I hear water sloshing inside. Machine drains fine....

You have a bad water fill valve. Until you get it fixed shut water valves off at the wall so that you don't have a flood if the fill valve on the machine fails completely. Let me know if there is anything else I can Help you with.

The water will not shut off after filling up the washing machine and floods the wash room

Sand or trash in the air line going up to the water level switch. Blow out that tube and connect it back secure. Pump out any water in the tub at the time of the fix and retry on low level.Look at this diagram: water%20level%20operation.jpg As you can see the rubber tube from the bottom of the tub allows air pressure to push against the switch till it shuts down the valve and starts the wash cycle. Remedy this problem: Simply remove the tube from the switch and blow it out. Use them lungs!. Get that sand and trash out of the sump. Reconnect the hose tightly and pump out any standing water. Then restart the machine. If you have a good tight connection the machine should start working like normal. No parts needed!

Machine doesn t stop filling during rinse cycle and door unlocks and opens flooding room

Hi there,

Check the following -

Water-inlet valve
Water-level switch

Water-inlet valve
A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve.

Water-level switch
A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.

Good Luck!

The washer doesn't stop filling and the agitator isn't working. The drain and spin cycles still work.

One of four things is happening...
1. Your drain hose is too low or is too far down the stand pipe and is causing water to siphon out of the machine
2. Your water inlet valve is stuck open and will need to be replaced.
3. The pressure switch (water level switch) has failed and won't switch between fill and wash.
Does it flood the room? If not probably #1.
Does the water stop running when you unplug the washer? If so, #3
Can you only stop the water flow by turning off the house hot and cold valves? If so, #2
4. If none of the above, then you might have a clogged pressure switch hose. It is a hose that connects to the water level switch (pressure switch) on the top end and the outer tub on the bottom end. It may have gunk plugging it up on the tub side preventing air pressure build up to trigger the water level switch. If so, remove the hose from the tub and clean out the end of the hose and the air dome that is attached to the tub. What brand is your machine?

Water sometimes does not shut off. flooded twice. happens intermittently.

If when the machine is flooding if you turn off power to the machine and it continues to fill: replace water inlet valve. If flooding water stops filling when power is interupted: clean out the end of the water level switch tube where it connects to the outer wash tub.
