2006 Bonneville America electrical failure

My 2006 Bonneville America was sitting in the driveway running and warming up and then just quit. When I tried to restart it, the electrical system was dead, except for the headlight. The battery has a charge, and the head light comes on with the key. The headlight will switch back and forth between high and low beam, but everything else is completely dead. Any ideas?

To start with, your battery was probably already low. You have to be at about 4000 rpm for the charging system to kick in and put out 14v or so. So if you just sit and idle, you will eventually run the battery down. If it is already low, you may have run it down below where there are enough amps to start it again. I know my 2002 BA started having what appears to be charging or regulating problems and the batteries won't stay charged. Try charging the battery with a good trickle charger to begin with. Then, when it is fully charged, run the bike and see if the charging system is keeping things up.

For strangeness like that you need a good local auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer. It sounds like a BCM (body control module) communication issue.

I have a 2006 Mazda3. I noticed whenever my air conditioner or heat is on it makes a sound like a lawn mower when I acceralate. Any ideas of what this could be ?

Well, I think you can rule out the AC/heater fan inside the car. That would make noise even just sitting in the driveway.

Many/most vehicles are designed to run the AC compressor not only when the AC is on but also when the defroster is on. This is to keep the AC compressor lubricated through the winter months also.

It should not be a belt problem as that belt is always turning anyway which should then rule out the pulley bearing at the AC compressor.

I do suspect your problem is a major internal failure of the AC compressor. This can be easily checked by a technician [or yourself if qualified]. Locate the electrical connector at or to the AC compressor. Two people: With the AC turned on, in park, increase the engine speed so you can here the noise. Disconnect the AC compressor electrical connector. If the noise stops instantly, the compressor has failed. A quite expensive repair. Have a reputable shop locate a re-manufactured compressor for you. That will help some on the cost.

Have a 1991 bonneville le has to sit for a few hours before it will restart

You may need to check fuel pressure after the engine warms up and shuts off. Maybe the fuel pump gets hot and stops. Have you checked for spark after it dies?
