Ok, I go and download EzTune. But it will not work. I ask them for the PIN number. They tell me they have no record of me. I did register my monitor with Gateway when I got it. So the monitor only comes on for a few seconds and then goes blank. I have to have a way to get EzTune software that works. Gateway will not tell me how.
Whatever you do - DON'T CONTACT GATEWAY. I am in the UK, and the Gateway support number is only available 9 - 5 (funny 'cos I'm at work then and can't access my PC), so I filled in the technical support form - waited 2 days for a reply only to be told they don't support third party software.
I had an online chat with US Gateway support - only to be told the same thing - alternatively, pay them silly amounts of money and phone the US and they will fix the problem.
The solution is to visit Portrait Displays (software developers) website and complete an online form with your problem. (This form prompts as to whether you have already contacted Gateway - so maybe they are monitoring the adequacy of Gateway support. The support from Portrait has been brilliant.
Unplug the cable from your monitor and then hold the power button while you plug the cable back in. When the monitor is fully restored,
release the power button and an anti-theft box will appear, prompting you to press the menu button at the side of your monitor. Press the menu button and you will be given a 3-digit code. Portrait need this code to give you an unlock code. Once you have the unlock code you can remove the anti-theft option.
How to disable EzTune™ Anti-Theft Software on my 19" fdp gateway
I just found a gateway lp2424 at the local dump
And what seems to work for me us to unplug it and plug it back in while tapping the power button wich turns it off then tap it again and it turns on normally
(Note: I also cannot access any settings of the monitor (
Try taking one to a local technition, most computers have the capability for a BIOS password on startup. To reset that, you would remove the bios battery from the MB for about an hour then put it back in and it would "forget" any settings (such as the password)
I cannot be certain but I imagine that there would be something like that located within the monitor itself, or a Jumper you could move or put in to restore "default/factory" settings so you may be able to set another pin.
It may have hardware problem inside due to bad caps.

This monitor includes EzTuneâ„¢ which is part of GatewayShield's hardware protection solution.
This theft deterrent software lets you use a unique PIN code to secure your monitor
to your PC. If your monitor is removed from your PC, your monitor will not
function. To get started, install the EzTune software from the CD, go to the
Plug-ins section and enter your personal identification number. If you decide
to move your monitor to another PC, make sure that you install EzTune on the
second PC and enter your PIN or disable EzTune within GatewayShield on your
original PC before you disconnect your monitor from your PC

same problem only I acquired several monitors at auction and cannot get them unlocked I understand theft deterrence but there are many needed and legal reasons to buy and sell used , assets. There is no way for me to find or contact the original owners and of course these monitors worked fine when obseved with the original pc but after seperating them are useless it has cost me dearly in time frustration and respect. I for one will not be buying any gateway components. Others will follow and gateway products will be ?????. Sorry I just would like some solution to wasting a 100 or so monitors
due to a power shutdown the Antitheft mode reset my password... so I have to unplug the power cord... push the on-off button then plug again the power and so on... where are the hackers when we needed

My power shut down and now my monitor activates its "Theft Deterence" system of whatever and I keep inputting my PIN number and it says "Password Error" It is a real pisser... I got a big *** gateway shield in the middle of my screen and everything is in black and white
I have the same damn problem and its really getting on my nerves. When I call Gateway toll free numbers everyone acts like they dont know what Im talking about and thats frustrating too. Then they want you to bring the computer back 3 and 4 times only to still act retarded and act they dont know what youre talking about. This is really PISSING ME OFF especially when that damn grey sign pops up in the middle of the screen and stays there. PLEASE HELP BEFORE I THROW IT THROUGH A WALL!!
I have the same problem and have called Gateway twice and have spoken to two separate technicians. Both of them have done different things, but the problem is still there. Big ugly thing in the middle of the screen saying that the Gateway Anti-Theft is on and the screen is in black and white instead of color. Guess my next computer will not be a Gateway.
I have the same exact problem and i hate this because I cant barely see what i'm typing
LCD BLOQUEADO
I having the same problem. I just moved from one residence to another, connected my monitor and the black screen is there with the prompt that I must enter my pin to remove it. I figured out how to work around that by allowing my computer to upload completely. After cancelling the EZ Tune "enter your pin" box I right click on the desktop and select the prompt that allows me to restore it to the manufacturers setting. You'll have to do this each time you turn on your computer. My problem now is after having a virus on my computer and having it removed, my screen is black again. I call gateway for them to remove it, of course because I don't remember my pin, they tell me "it'll cost me $59.99 + tax" for them to restore my screen. Help someone.
