Installed LifeCam Software, plugged in cam, and "Initialization error." Unintalled/reinstalled, same thing. Looked all over Google, Yahoo, tried different solutions, same thing, "Initialization error." Decided to install on my four-year-old Dell Dimension L866r PIII with Windows XP Home Upgrade. LifeCam worked perfectly with the VX-1000 the first time.
Vista is a piece of shit! There should be a class-action lawsuit.

- Hanto, thanks, but I tried your suggestion. The CD that came with the MS VX-1000 is version 1.4. When I attempted to download and install from the Microsoft web site, I received a message version already installed. There are many, many entries on the net about the VX-1000 not working with Vista. One would think a Microsoft product would work with the latest and greatest OS from Microsoft.
I am eager to get Vista SP1, but not holding my breath.

- I am the person who originally posted the problem. I have since installed Vista SP1 on the subject notebook PC. The notebook is running much better, and the Microsoft VX-1000 web cam ran perfectly.
-   I cannot install the LifeCam VX 1000 on my new HP 64 bits computer
with Windows Vista home premium. It was working fine on my old computer with Windows XP 32 bits.
When I insert the Software CD, the installation starts but after just ten
seconds, it stops with error message that installation can't continue due to insufficient hard disk space( I have 500 Gig. hard disk).
How do I resolve this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!-   ksmehta
I just checked to verify that Microsoft does indeed offer a Vista compatible download for that cam. If you are serious about using the cam on the Vista machine, maybe you should try downloading the driver directly from Microsoft. It is entirely possible that the CD drive on your Vista machine is having problems reading the CD that came with the webcam and the download would be a direct install from the hard drive. Heck, it's worth a try, don't ya think.
- So you are stating the initialization error is occuring after the driver install then, otherwise your statements make no sense. At first it sounded to me at least that you were not able to install driver at all due to an ' initialization error '. Anyway I do have SP-1 installed for Vista and I have seen very little difference between it and the original Vista. One improvement that I can testify to tho, is the faster file transfers ( networking ) between two Vista networked machines. By the way I tend to agree with your statements concerning Vista's lack of authority and compatibility. According to everything I'm reading most of that is due to the fact no one ( manufacturers ) seemed to believe that MIcrosoft would deliver the product on time and thus they didn't create the drivers for the new O/S.. However the product has been out a year now with a new Service Pack and nothing seems to have changed. So your point is very well taken by me.
