Question about Vacuums

Hoover vacuum U6655-900

I was trying to clean out the hoses on my vacuum because my husband vacuumed over wet carpet and it was smelling bad. When I took the cover part off the back where the hose attaches and this plastic piece leads to the part where the dirt goes....the little wires broke. Does anyone know what they are for and can I or do I need to fix them? Thanks!!!

It is called the dirt sensor, you can try to re-attach the wires if there is enough there to do that. Otherwise you would have to replace the sensor, it may come with the duct(#21), the other end goes to the circuit board(#36) where the head light is. It tells you if there is a clog, when the light turns to red.

Hoover brush and wash instruction manual

Hi there! To prepare for cleaning, put the solution and water in the top tank. While cleaning, all the dirty water gets sucked into the bottom tank. To clean squeeze trigger to release cleaning solution and slowly push carpet cleaner forward, this equals one wet stroke. Continue to squeeze trigger and slowly pull carpet cleaner back toward you (second wet stroke). Release trigger and slowly push carpet cleaner forward over area just sprayed with solution (dry stroke). Then slowly pull carpet cleaner back toward you without squeezing trigger (dry stroke). To avoid saturating the carpet don't do more than 4 wet strokes over one area. Always end with dry strokes. Here is a link to view the instruction manual if needed.

Hoover carpet cleaning started to smell like it's burning and black chunks of rubber came out

Nan, there's obviously a belt that's shot and needs to be replaced. If it started to smell, then it was probably bound up at some point in it's travel path, that stops it from running and the motor shaft burns it's way through the belt, making the smell.

My hoover smells of ammonia

Hello,
I too have a problem with a bad smell coming from my henry hound hoover, but thats probely because i haven't used a hoover bag. I took the cloth filter out, banged all the dust off, then sprayed it with 'RugDoctor' pet stain remover for carpets and upholstery. It still smells a bit, but not half as bad as befor. I have now ordered a reusable, zipable, washable cloth hoover bag especially made for Henry's. It cost £8.80 from ebay with free postage. Hope this helps Nikki.

Even the professionals have problems getting pet stain smells out of carpeting. You need to use a good deodorizer and get the carpet as dry as possible.

you are correct, the motor is shot. if you like the machine replace the motor. i would get an est. on the machine from your local vac shop and the go price them. in some cases its better just to get another machine.

Hoover Model u5453-900 brush roller don't spin

Have you checked the  belt on your Hoover? It could need replacing.
When you say bottom of your cleaner to make it smell better, what are you referring to? It could be the hose or bag. If a bag is odorous try some bicarbonate of soda in the bag so that neutralizes the odors contained.
Another option is to clean out the hose. This can be down with many wet wipes or similar cleaning wipes pushed down the hose at one end and pulled out the other. Its a tricky maintenance issue but one which can be done if you have patience! Filters should also be replaced to ensure the vacuum is clean.
Alternatively if the hose comes off easily, lay the entire assembly in a bath and allow it lay flat in water with washing powder. The only problem with this is that you will need to let it dry for a day or two before the hose is completely dry.
