We would recommend to first attempt to connect it to an ac charger. If it starts on the charger then the issue could be that the battery is dead or the battery connector has disconnected. As long as the unit has not been hit with some ESD, then the hopes for recovery are high. Let us know if you need additional assistance.

Check to see if the Hold switch is on. It's located on the top or the bottom of iPod. When it's in the on position, you'll see an orange patch.

To turn the hold switch off, slide it until you no longer see the orange patch.

Press any button to turn on iPod.
Make sure the battery is charged
iPod won't turn on if the battery is empty. Instead, a low battery screen appears for about 3 seconds when you try to turn it on.

To charge your iPod, connect your iPod to your computer's built-in 6-pin FireWire or high-powered USB port or connect it to the Apple iPod

Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.

Note: iPod models without a Click Wheel cannot be charged via

USB. iPod shuffle requires a high-power USB port to charge. iPod nano and iPod (5th generation) can charge via USB or FireWire, but they require USB to sync with iTunes. If you're not sure what iPod model you have, click here.

If you are connecting via USB and the battery is completely discharged, there may be up to a 30-minute delay before iPod powers up. Click here for more information.

Reset iPod

If iPod still does not turn on or appears to be "frozen" you may need to reset it. When you reset iPod all your songs and files are saved. Some customized settings may be lost.

Let the iPod battery drain

In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:

Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.

Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.
Update iPod's software

If iPod turns on after you reset it, use the latest version of iTunes to update iPod.

hope this helps

Ipod touch will not turn on

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

What you can do, in order to resolve this issue, is start by resetting your iPod Touch
(Note: this does not remove any settings, data or media you have installed in your device)
• To perform a hard reset, press and hold your Sleep and Home Menu buttons for approximately 10 seconds.
• Once your screen goes black, release both keys. (If you see a white Apple logo before you release the keys you have held the keys to long and will need to start the reset process once again)
• The next screens you should see after the black screen, is the Apple logo screen followed by the main screen.

Let me know if this helps.

My silver ipod nano died a few days ago and I haven't not been able to charge it. I forget it was dead, and I tried to turn it on, but it started making a ticking noise (I guess the only way to describe it...

It was most likely the hard drive trying to turn on. Sometimes people can even feel the vibrations of the hard drive spinning in the iPod. The only iPod that has flash memory anymore is the iPod shuffle. I would recommend connecting your iPod to power then attempting to reset it after ten minutes of charge. (without disconnecting the simultaneously press and hold the menu and center buttons until the apple icon appears or for at least ten seconds. If this does not work wait about a half hour more and reattempt the reset process. If you cannot get the iPod to turn on while connected to power you most likely will need a new hard drive. Did the unit take any falls at all? Check out www.rapidrepair.com for full instructions on replacing your battery and or hard drive and step by step guides for iPod issues. It's not my sight, I just found it to be very helpful in my own needs

8 GB Ipod Nano went dead and now won't charge

does it work on the charger? if not, then contact apple or your dealer for more assistance or repairs.

If it works on the charger, plays music and so on, your battery is probably dead and you need a new one.
