Question about Brother MFC 210C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Never print in color

Hi, I use my computer for in home stuff only. I never print anything in color. Is there anyway to get out of having to buy color carts and only use the black ? The colored ink dries up and I have to replace it even though I never used it. Thanks, Joan

Yes there is:

what you need to keep the printhead alive and to print only b/w is
some destill water, some glycerin alc. (drugstore) and some printhead cleaning solution and ORIGINAL -empty!- brother c/y/m carts:

Drill a 2mm hole into the brand name on top of the carts (e. g. <<O>> of brother).

Mix 7ml destill water with 3ml glycerin alc. and 1ml of print head cleaning solution (shake well before filling into a syringe and then to the open cart).

Do print in Greyscale mode (see printer settings) and with normal paper only, because otherwise the printing will be bad!

Machine will print b/w only and you can be sure that the ph will keep alive!

When you bring up the print screen, click on the printer properties tab (top right) and on this screen you will find 'use black ink only' and 'print in black and white'

Printer's printing black instead of colored.

the printer is fine its the computer that you are printing from that is giving the wronge information. try reinstalling it onto that computer. and check that the background on the word documents are not black on print prevew first. or you have not chosen on the program you are printing from there is not a background colour that needs sending to the back.

try doing 4 head cleans and then leave the printer powered up over night. Don't print or anything else after the head cleans until the morning then do one more head clean (this soaks the print head in ink overnight and then the final head clean should clear any obstruction. If the printer still refuses to print in colour, you could try replacing the cartridges anyway as they can be faulty. The only problem is thaty sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new priner. (how silly is that!) By the way, are you using compats or epson original ink carts?

Ink cartridge replacement

I had the same problem, and after scouring around online for a few days, I learned that this is one of the biggest gripes about this printer. Basically, you're out of luck unless you replace EVERYTHING, even though you only want to print black (nuts, isn't it?). So I went out and bought all new color cartridges, and it STILL won't print. I think it's just a bad printer all around. :(

Black blocked by magenta

One ovbious option would be to have a friend print it out.
I assume that is not an option.

Some printers just won't let you print if a single color is out. Yes, stupid. Try printing a blank page. If it fails, there is no other option but to replace the cartridge or print elsewhere.
If the blank page test works, this next option/test is worth a try...
Depending on the app you are using, you can specify the color breakdown of the colors you are using. In your case, it is possible that the text is set to a rich black (4-color) rather than just black.
If that is the case, to test this most quickly, make a new file, and create a new black (black2), set to 100 black, 0% other colors.
Type a wor and set it to print in that color and try to print it.
If that works, apply the same technique to your real document.
Hope it works. I've been stuck in the same situation, and some printers will just not let you print if a single color is out.
Good luck.

get a q-tip and wet one end in water.  run wet q-tip along head a few times.  then take dry end and run along head again to dry it.  then run wet end again on the absorber side of head.  then dry with dry end.  replace parts, do a deep cleaning, and try a test print.
