Question about Endless Summer 2009 Open Flame Patio Heater

Windchaser patio heater

We just got the model PHS patio heater. We light the pilot light, but as soon as we release the control knob, the pilot goes out and the main heater does not light. We have tried multiple times, but cannot seem to get the main heater to light.

Same problem. I assume it is the thermocouple, but parts list is not included in manual, and no one returns phone calls/emails from Windchaser - HELP

I have the PHS model and I can get the pilot to light, hold it in for minutes, but as soon as I release the pilot the flame goes out. I've been told to replace the thermo coupler and or to use canned air blow out the gas line. I can't seem to access the thermo coupler without taking the entire heater assembly apart. When I tried to take it aprt I unscrew it and the nuts fell into the unit and now I can't retrieve them.

You have to hold the button down for 30 seconds at least before turning the knob to ON. If you are doing this and it still goes out after you let up on the knob, then it needs a new flame sensor, or thermocouple. Same thing different names.

Pilot on my patio heater will not stay lit. goes out when i release the knob

If the heater is the same as this type of patio heater and it lights on pilot and goes out it is generally a worn thermocouple. These are designed to switch off the patio heater when something is wrong, changing one fixed 90% of the problems. Sometimes it can also be caused by a worn tilt switch but always start with the most likley and work backwards. Found this site very useful, patio heater problem solving page.

i suggest you change thermocouple on heater it is the pilot control, firstly i would find where it attach's to valve and make sure it is screwed into valve properly (do not over tighten). If the pilot still doesn't go change the thermopile and if that don't work change the valve, but it most likely the thermocouple

I go thru the process of lighting the pilot light following the directions exactly, but as soon as I let the pilot light switch pop out so that I can turn it to the left to light the heater the flame goes...

The system works off of a thermocouple that is heated by the pilot. The thermocouple creates millivolts that magnetize a head behind the control knob. When you push in the knob the magnetized head behind the knob holds the gas valve open. So obviously the head is not being magnetized. First make sure that the pilot is not plugged and the flame is large enough to heat the thermocouple. Also sometimes you may need to hold the knob for several minutes before the pilot will stay on. Also patio heaters have a safety feature that will cut the millivolt circuit if the heater falls over. It is possible that this safety device is tripped or defective causing the pilot to not stay lit. Also check for any loose wires on the millivolt system.
