On my Nikon D2X the mirror seems to be operating in reverse. That is, it is normally lock-up, then when the shutter is pressed it slaps down, then back up, then gives an ERR on the top panel. Help?
I had to make that guess because sometimes reversing the polarity of some electrical circuits causes opposite reactions. At this point, you should e-mail the techs at the support section of the Nikon website.I had to make that guess because sometimes reversing the polarity of some electrical circuits causes opposite reactions. Normally, you can manually lock-up the mirror for the purpose of cleaning the sensor. To do this, you need to connect the camera to the optional EH-6 AC adapter. If after removing the lens and inspecting the mirror, you cannot gently nudge it back down (do not touch it...use a cotton swab) then you'll need access to the EH-6. If you don't have one, possibly a camera store near you would have one and be willing to let you plug in your camera so you could try to access the mirror lock-up function in the set-up menu.
If you're asking how to replace the shutter yourself, you need to rethink this. Shutter replacement is a complicated procedure and is best done by a certified Nikon repair facility.
the only time i have ever seen this on my D2x is when the lens isnt snapped all the way on. but since you have tried several lenses, i am sure they are snapped on. this leads me to believe something is wrong with one of the contacts on the camera where the lens snaps on--check them to be sure they are springing out and clean. check the owners manual to see if there is another cause for this message.
You can't view live images on the monitor; the D2X does not have a Live View capability. A suitable version of Nikon Camera Control Pro may allow you to connect the D2X to a computer.
i have little faith that this can be done, as i tried doing it with epoxy - my favorite, never-fails adhesive - and it didn't work. i think if you can get your camera to Nikon, though, they'll replace the whole door with another whose rubber isn't likely to come off. i read someone online saying they took their D2x in for some other repair and Nikon replaced the door without even asking him...whether they did it for free, i don't know, but i'd hope so, since the rubber falling off in the first place is really their fault.
It isn't possible to insert a battery backwards into a D2X.
