Hp officejet 7410 fax failure

Whenever I try to send a fax, the document feeder starts, then it goes "WHIIIIZZZZZZ!" and I get a scanner failure message telling me to power off and restart. What can I do to rectify this problem?

I get the same problem. I place a document in the feeder and try to scan it or fax it and I get the same WHIZZING sound and a failure along with my paper being stuck in the feeder partially! I have not yet found an answer to the problem.

I have the same problem. I can print, make copies, and receive faxes just fine. If I try to scan or send a fax I get the same Whhhizzzz Sound and the scanner failure error message. How much does replacing scanner motor cost?

My symptoms are the same as the other posters; I can copy (B&W or color) or fax as long as I use the flat bed, but when I use the document feeder, I get the loud noise after 1/3 of the page goes in and the "Scanner Failure" message appears.  Since the copy function works, I don't see how this can be a true "scanner" problem.  I've tried all the "Solutions" on HP's web site. I also did a chat session with an HP "tech??" who only wanted to sell me a new unit.  Thanks.

When ever I try to fax anything I also get a Wissssing sound and the fax will not go thru and then a print out will read that there was a power failure. Also a explanation icon will appear on the screen.I made contact with a HP rep.and he tried to sell me a newer model. He said this one is no longer manufactured. Then for $39.00 he offered to tell me what the problem is. This machine is only two years old and was seldom used.

    Un happy H/P customer

My problem is exactly the same as the one described by phtismedic1:
"Whenever I try to send a fax, the document feeder starts, then it goes
"WHIIIIZZZZZZ!" and I get a scanner failure message telling me to power
off and restart. What can I do to rectify this problem?"

We tried following our instruction manual on cleaning the document
feeder. It didn't help. HP tells me they can't fix it and I
need to buy a new printer. Our printer is only a couple of years
old, and it's good, and I'm not ready to trash it yet.

i don't want to have to buy a new printer. and if there are any special tricks to changing motor please share. thanks I M not a tech

The solution by jcloyd on June 19, 2008 worked for me. It was very simple--took me about 10 minutes. The most difficult part was the trip to hardware store to buy the T8 screwdriver.

Had the same problem as everyone else here - would copy fine but faxing or scanning resulted in the "whizzzzzz" sound (with or without the sheet feeder) and a mandatory reboot.
I followed the suggestion of moving the scanner head to a different part of the drive belt and it works fine now (at least until that part of the belt wears down!). Here was the procedure - it took about 10 minutes.

  1. Remove all T8 screws from the top of the scanner bed - there are two hidden on the left side under the removable flap and two more hidden behind the front control panel cover, which just snaps off.
  2. There is a bundle of wires that prevents the entire top from lifting completely off, so lift it high enough to clear the plastic parts, then rotate it 180 degrees around and set it on something to support it.
  3. Lift the scanner head until it comes off the guide rod and disengages from the drive belt.
  4. Move the scanner head to the other end of the bed and reingage it onto the belt and guide rod - this is a little tricky to get the belt to pop back into the scanner head, but I got it to go by holding the belt firmly on either side of the head and squeezing both together.
  5. Replace top and all screws, pop control panel cover back into place.
  6. Rejoice in saving yourself lots of $$ and preventing more junk from entering the landfill!

The whizzzzz is caused by the scanner belt slipping due to ware on the teeth ,however only the thrust side/end gets worn ,the ldle side can be moved by 180 deg to put the unused teeth it in the position that will make the printer fully operational until they are worn, HP do not have any spareparts and this belt would cost around $15 if you could get one it is also used in ofer printers

I tried solution #4 and don't think I achieved what was recommended, but I did end up rearranging the gear wheels. The wheel in the front seemed to be a bit more worn. Remembering how to put it all back together "PRICELESS!" I am happy to say that my doc feeder is operating again. It seems a little slow on the up take but then goes right on through.

Same thing for me. Maybe it's the feeder motor but it's not the scanner motor. The machine copies, scans fine without using feeder. I cleaned all rollers and mechanisms. the paper appers to feed fine untill it just reaches the glass then the old whizzzz sound.
Really need help on this one, anyone. Thanks

Where is the document feeder cover?

The doc. feeder cover is at the very top of your machine, it covers the rollers that pull in a document when you are faxing or copying.

WON'T SEND FAX FROM FEEDER.

u can try the following steps >

unplug the power cord from the back of the unit [without turning off the unit ] > press and hold ok and cancel key together > while holding these keys down plug in the power cord back into the unit . do not release the keys > wait for a few seconds it will make certain noises an wud turn off automatically .

turn on the printer again it will go into allignment phase > let it finish.

after its done > try to make a copy from the feeder .

Note - In case [ok and cancel key ] combination doesnot work < u can try # and 6 key combo as well with the same procedure.
