Hi

If you are using Vista 64-bit, then it might need drivers for the 64-bit OS.
Pls check for the same if you are using 64-bit OS.

Have just purchased a USB 2.0 to SATA HDD Adaptor made by Nikkai from Maplin. Have connected everything okay with my old HDD but when I go to run the 'Driver & User Manual' disc it just tells me it a...

Most of these adapters don't need windows drivers EXCEPT for use on a '98 system.

Got to the disk management console & see if your USB drive is there. It may simply need to have a drive letter assigned for you to see it in My Computer.

The path to the disk management console is usually: %SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s

Paste that into Start/Run.

Western Digital External HDD not appearing in My Computer

It could be that the OS is not assigning a drive letter to your removable drive. To do this, go to disk management and assign one.

Assuming OS is Win 2000/XP/Vista

Right-click My Computer then Manage
Click on Disk Management
Right-click the removable drive and click on Change Drive Letter
Assign a drive letter and click OK
Your drive should now show up on My Computer

Hope this helps.

The disk is either damaged or the USB interface is damaged.
1) You could try opening the external case and connect the disk to your computer directly (Using IDE/S-ATA cables)
2) Format the HD and use data recovery software/service.

External Toshiba 400GB HDD not recognized on my Dell CPx J650GT

New hard drives need to be formatted! So go into the control panel switch to classic view, ( if you are still using category view for the control panel ) open administrative tools, then open computer management. Next open disk management. In disk management your new drive will show as raw, you will be give the option of formatting the drive, select primary partition and format in NTFS.
This will then format the drive, when this has finished your new drive will appear in my computer.

Pnp drivers not found for Windows Vista!!!

Hi, you might need to partition & format the drive. Its pretty easy. Just get into control panel (classic view), open administrator tools, and computer management. in the computer management window, there will be a "tree view" on the left, you should see disk management. Once you are in the "disk management" section, you should see your external drive there, and can partition/format it by right clicking on it. Most external drives should come preformatted, and if it doesnt appear in the disk management section it may need some sort of driver disk or oem software.
