How to Load Vista or Win7 on a Toshiba Portege M400?

follow this steps
  1. You will find out that when booting your M400 from the Vista or Win 7 DVD, the setup program will not find your hard disk(s) The M400 has a SATA-RAID controller that doesn't have a "Vista Ready" driver! Use this driver
  2. Unzip the driver to a USB Memory stick and keep it ready for the disk management panel during setup
    • Use your Vista or Win7 DVD to boot
    • Stick the USB memory stick into any left hand USB port on your M400. you might have to try both ports until it is recognized by the setup
  3. Point to the memory stick when setup program ask you to load an external driver.
  4. Load the driver from USB Stick.
    • You should see the disk/partitions and should be ready to move forward in the installation process

Guys, can you help me with my laptop problem. windows is unable to load, i tried to reformat the HDD install new OS but still windows will not load. though I bring my laptop to service center but they told...

Hate to say it.. but yes your service center is correct. The motherboard or the back plane on the motherboard is not able to handle the windows load, just sits there stating it is installing .... but there is no progress on the screen.
I note, you stated that you have formatted the HDD, if you did not, the data on the disk could be prone to corruption.
To verify and/or prove a point ... I'll try another Operating System (OS) ... The freeware linux versions. Fedora Core or Ubuntu. You can download a "live CD" which starts the OS and if it starts, then it may not necessarily be a motherboard issue. From the liveCD you can then install onto your computer and install free versions of word, excel, etc .. I'd suggest OpenOffice.
Either this should assist in verifying you have a hardware related issue or not for loading any operating systems.
hope this helped ....

Error 1607 unable to install InstallShield

how you fix it

Reinstall the InstallScript engine loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); To reinstall the InstallScript engine from InstallShield Developer, follow these steps:
  1. Download the ISScript7.zip file. To do this, visit the following InstallShield Web site: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322 (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322)
  2. Extract the ISScript7.zip file.
  3. Double-click the ISScript.msi file.
Running Setup from a virtual drive loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); If you are running the Setup program from a virtual drive created by using the SUBST command, you can delete the virtual drive and instead run the Setup program from the physical hard disk. To delete the virtual drive, click Start, click Run, type subst drive_letter: /d, and then click OK.

good luck

WindowsXP not loading after installing Windows Vista Demo Version

You need to get rid of the Vista Demo, and reload xp. You need to keep one or the other I think, you can't keep both operating systems on the same drive. What were you thinking?
Did you install the vista demo as a dual boot setup? Doesn't sound like it.
I hope someone can help you, I can't.

Pnp drivers not found for Windows Vista!!!

Hi, you might need to partition & format the drive. Its pretty easy. Just get into control panel (classic view), open administrator tools, and computer management. in the computer management window, there will be a "tree view" on the left, you should see disk management. Once you are in the "disk management" section, you should see your external drive there, and can partition/format it by right clicking on it. Most external drives should come preformatted, and if it doesnt appear in the disk management section it may need some sort of driver disk or oem software.
