Press the reset button and try again. If you don't power the machine off completely before inserting the next cartridge, you may experience this problem.

Your HD tv might be the problem though it should be capable of displaying non-HD content, depending how the connection is made.
It is possible an adjustment might have to be made in the menu of the tv to select a compatible format if it is capable of processing analogue signals.

I suggest you do a search for "understanding video signals".

The answer would be to connect it to an older analogue only tv set for the purpose of testing...

Is this an NTSC compatible TV? The result you describe is what can happen if you try to use an NTSC Atari on a PAL TV. The color signals are different.

I purchased an atari 2600 junior on ebay recently. It turns on fine, the cartridges have been cleaned (by myself). I have a female rca to male coax adapter to attack the rca cable to. I then attach that to...

Try switching to a different channel. The Atari 2600 supports channels 2 and 3, you want to pick the one that is not broadcasting in your area. If your TV has "auto-tuning" you may need to manually add channel 2 or 3 (whichever you pick) to see it on the TV.

Hey, I know how you feel--I just bought a '7800' at the local consignment shop, and haven't even tested it yet! But I love to find stuff, and so I thought I'd throw this @ you, because it'll make things a LOT easier for you...I don't know where you are, so I can't guess your local TV types, but almost everybody has coaxial connections on the back of theirs, so I think this would be your best choice! I got lucky and found this eBay ad, which has some information as part of its sales pitch: >>CLICK HERE If I wasn't so sure I have some of these laying around somewhere, I'd buy one--or 4--today! hope this helps BTW, you do know you can also find tons of these cartridges everywhere, right? But it was funny, towards the end of the life of each Atari, the internal connection for the cart gets so dusty you have to actually start blowing on the carts to make sure the connection is good...ha! You'll look pretty funny, but rest assured, it's an inside joke!

How do i hookup a atari to a plasma tv?

Easiest solution is to hook the RF out on the 7800 into a VCR and let the VCR change that signal into a composite A/V out that your plasma will understand.

My 2600 works fine but after 5 mins or so there is a static noise which starts through the tv speakers and the longer I play the louder it gets until I can't hear the game any more. Why?

Try a different channel on your TV. If your using 3 then go to 4 or vice versa.

If that doesn't work then try a different RF Tuner cause those are known to go bad over time. You can also try those Coaxial adapters that allow you to play your Atari on your Cable-Ready TV using the cable connection on the back of the TV.

Finally if either of those don't solve the issue, try playing different games and see if the problem happens after playing 1 games or all games. If its all games then that means there is a problem with the mainboard inside of your Atari.

When i turn my atari 2600 on no games play?

The Atari 2600 was finicky even at the time (early 1980s). Just unplug it completely. Plug back in and power back on. Use the reset switch if need be. Good luck and have fun!

Atari 2600 junior problems

Press up on the power switch to reset the machine. Then try powering down. If that fails, accumulated dirt or general usage may be preventing the on/off slider from sliding fully to the off position. If you want to hurt your baby, take it apart - you will find the obstruction in the casing (could be as simple as a ball of lint). I wouldn't reccomend it however - the Atari 2600 was always touchy, and this is not as big of a deal as it might seem. Just unplug after every use.

Atari 2600 fuzzy screen

Hello, Are you using a newer flat panel or and older TV? IF you are using a newer TV the picture will never look very good. IF not, did you try working with the RF adapter? Check all connections. If all else fails try to get another RF adapter to see if that helps. I remember this being a bit problematic even when these were new. Wish I had a definite answer for you! Good Luck - Dr. Know
