Shutter release is like it is in slo motion even at high shutter speed settings.

Are you using flash? Is the red-eye reduction turned on?

Also try setting the camera's menu back to default settings.

Why does the flash come on when there seems to be enough light

I am assuming that you are in manual mode. It's on board computer has decided that to prevent camera shake or motion blur that the flash was needed. Now there are things you can do if you don't want the flash to fire. If you use one of the manual modes and set your ISO to a high ISO(800ish) and make sure your f-stop is set for the lowest number your lens will accept.
Play around and see what works for you. Chris

How do I turn off the flash for a coolpix 885?

There is a dedicated button (with the symbol of a lightning) for the flash. To turn off flash, press the button (maybe repeatedly) till the flash indicator on screen shows 'lightning with a circle around it'. To set it back, press the same button till the display shows Lightning and A.

Search on the Internet, you will definitely find a soft copy of the User Manual of your camera.

Nikon D60 Digital SLR--Slow Shutter Speed

Your're probably using a flash with TTL disabled. So 1/200 is the highest sync possible with that kind of flash. Did you try removing the flash off the body and setting faster shutter speeds?

Washed out pictures using a Bower 724 AFPX flash

This is probably not the camera settings. Pentax k200D wilt only give auto-flash with just three of their own units. Sounds like you have the Bower set on Auto. Set the flash to Manual, and adjust exposure on the aperture setting with the body set to manual as well.
Note that several people have reported problems with Bower units on digital cameras (and not just on Pentax)

Hi There, the DMCLZ7 has motion video recording with audio. Go into the menu option that shows you where to turn on the mic. Set to turn on and you should be ok.

"hand" icon flashing

Hello,

It's likely your photos are blurry from camera motion, caused by taking a hand-held photo with a slow shutter speed, rather than out of focus.

The hand icon flashes when you don't have enough light to take a crisp (not blurry) photo without either using a tripod (or a flash). The reason for a flashing hand is you can't "hand-hold" the camera at the current settings - you need to use a tripod. If you are "zoomed in" (on a telephoto setting for your lens) you can sometimes get a crisp hand-held photo if you "zoom out" to a wider angle setting on the lens. (You need a steadier hand to hand-hold a telephoto lens setting than a wide-angle lens setting.)

You may have changed a setting that sets the ISO (the normal setting would be "auto") and if so, if you change the ISO to a high number, or to auto, this will help you take better photos in low light. Check your camera's user's manual to see how to check/change the ISO.

When you have more light the icon will stop flashing. If you need to take hand-held photos in low light then you need to use flash, or get a better camera that has better low light capabilities.

Blurred motion photos

Sorry, I didn't get those pages. You can set the shutter speeds for the higher settings using the M or S mode on the camera. You can also adjust the ISO settings to increase the light sensitivity for proper exposure at the higher shutter speeds. I would shoot a few test shots before the action starts to see if any adjustments are required.

The built in flash on the camera won't be of much help in a large room like a gym. It only has a effective range of about 10 feet.

I laugh every time I see the flashes going off at a large sporting event with folks in the upper seats firing away....

3100Z Focus Problems

re you sure the out of focus condition is due to the actually focus or do to motion blur? I think the 3100Z in auto and flash on will set the shutter speed fairly low like 1/30th of a second for wide angle and 1/90th for full telephoto. This may not be fast enough to avoid motion blur. I would suggest using manual mode and shutter priority and set the shutter speed to 1/100th of a second. This won't effect the flash output but will reduce the amount of ambient light being captured which could cause long range shots to become darker in the distance. Name of the game, don't be afraid to take it off auto mode and experiment with manual setting.
