Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Spacemaker XL Model #JVM1640bWB004

I have this built in microwave that is about 7 years old.  It has worked up to today just fine. I put something into it to reheat tonight and the food came out cold.  Tried a second time to heat it and still cold.  Any ideas?

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

A number of days ago we put two plates of food in the microwave to reheat them. There was a snap, crackle, pop noise. We checked to see there was no metal object in the unit....there wasn't ...we know...

Are you sure the plates were Microwave oven safe? Some dishes have metal in the colors of the design. A snap, crackle, pop noise normally means there is metal present in the oven.

GE Spacemaker microwave oven - Sensor error

Hello :

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect
..

good luck .

My kenmore elite microwave is loosing power

I'm afraid the magnetron (most expensive part - generates the microwaves) is on its way out. In most cases, it doesn't pay to repair it - unless the replacement would cost over $200 and/or hard to find the right size for built-in. I would vote for replace with new - you've had a good run for the money, but this might not be the only problem that develops soon. wutxtye0rjd9d9ekmodqt1eoxkvn9hr9qjz1l3dabggyud7sdgr36czsrfxqenadhnijx9nfayi+sz1sug0aaaaasuvork5cyii=

MAYTAG MMV4205BAS Running but not heating

If the food in the cooking compartment is not heating at all, then you may have one of several components related to microwave energy generation that have failed or became disconnected internally.
Magnetron Tube, HV Capacitor, Filament Transformer or any number of sensors that disable power to the system. The control board could also cause the system to noty function correctly.. You wanted general inputs.. there ya go.. LOL
Not sure I told you anything you didn't already know but you should ask the tech what he did after he gets it going...

Rick

MICROWAVE WON'T HEAT OR COOK

Sorry if you misunderstand, but I offer free advice so you or someone you know can fix things yourself.

Chances are you have a bad magnetron or other high voltage part, but I won't bother you with details now.

You take care of yourself.

Microwave does not heat/cook

hi

power spikes are very damaging to a microwaves internal parts, it sounds like your transformer and/or magnetron are blown. if the unit is out of warranty I would recommend calling a repairman or getting a new microwave (the transformer & magnetron are expensive and dangerous to work on) also get a small single plug surge protector for the new one.
