Problem for Pioneer PRO-200 60 in. Rear Projection Television
Pioneer pro -200 60 in
television goes on but after five minutes it shuts off as if a fuse blew...not sure if its a power surge,short circuit or if a fuse keeps popping

- Hi - we have a 60 in Pioneer Pro-200 and the tv will turn on for about 5 min - then a "pop" sounds and the tv will go off. If anyone has any ideas on what the problem is - whether it is a fuse - resistor or something else that I can repair myself - your advice would be greatly appreciated ! - DaveB123May 15, 2008

Since the set needs to be diagnosed you have to take it into a repair shop.
Your specific problem indicates that a component is heating up then opening or closing to it's natural state. It is not a fuse or resistor. Obviously fuses can be reset or new one put in but when it comes to the smaller elements (resistors, transistors, capacitors) if they "pop" they are destroyed, so since you can turn the set on later this should not be the case.
For a power surge just use a surge protector to see if this remedies the situation, not to mention they help keep the set "healthier" due to brown-outs, etc.
You could also open the back up and watch what happens - see if there is a flash and get back with me. But a word of CAUTION, there is high voltage, so don't touch anything inside when the set is on or for at least 5 minutes afterward (let the capacitors discharge).
