Hi - we have a 60 in Pioneer Pro-200 and the tv will turn on for about 5 min - then a "pop" sounds and the tv will go off. If anyone has any ideas on what the problem is - whether it is a fuse - resistor or something else that I can repair myself - your advice would be greatly appreciated !

Since the set needs to be diagnosed you have to take it into a repair shop.

Your specific problem indicates that a component is heating up then opening or closing to it's natural state. It is not a fuse or resistor. Obviously fuses can be reset or new one put in but when it comes to the smaller elements (resistors, transistors, capacitors) if they "pop" they are destroyed, so since you can turn the set on later this should not be the case.

For a power surge just use a surge protector to see if this remedies the situation, not to mention they help keep the set "healthier" due to brown-outs, etc.

You could also open the back up and watch what happens - see if there is a flash and get back with me. But a word of CAUTION, there is high voltage, so don't touch anything inside when the set is on or for at least 5 minutes afterward (let the capacitors discharge).

2001 Toyota celica. The a/c and power Windows just stopped working... Replaced the fuses and they just blew again. Any suggestions?

Fuses are designed to be the weakest link in an electrical circuit. If a power surge or short occurs, the fuse blows, thus protecting everything else on the circuit by breaking the circuit. If the fuses are blowing immediately, that indicates that there is a major short in the circuit that needs to be hunted down and corrected before replacing the fuse again. Since those two circuits are generally going to be fused separately, there's a decent chance they are shorting together, probably at the fuse panel or near it

My HD rear projection television keeps blowing a fuse. Everything was working well last night then it blew the fuse I replaced it and it blew again.

On these sets if you replace a fuse either you have a short OR the fuse is a generic one------replacement fuses from say Radio Shack will even if correct amperage and voltage blow for no reason-----most of the fuses in these sets are actually thermal or slow blow types.

With the set unplugged take a meter and check both sides of the fuse to ground in the set. If the fuse that is blowing at once is the one connected to the power cord it is likely incorrect fuse or generic junk fuse was used to replace it.

We didnt have a surge protector on our tv we purchased from home shopping net. and lihtning came in the line and i guess hit our tv can it be fixed or is it worth fixing price wise i hate to throw it away...

Look at the power supply module, most of them will have a surge protection devices (called MOV, same as used in common surge power strip but cannot handle big surge that power strip can handle) installed to protect minor surge, it should blow the fuse. Once MOV blown, it will more likely stay short circuit, if you put the new fuse in it will blow the fuse right away. You need to see if the MOVs blew up any sign of blown up components.

Dead Set after power surge

Check the power supply transformer primary driver transistor and the associated components (some diodes and capacitors, resistors, an optocoupler maybe) and the rectifier diodes (or a bridge) and capacitors at the transformer secondary, what you are looking for is a short circuit, however, the short may as well be in another section of the circuit board (a shorted component may sometimes have signs of damage caused by heat, but this is not a rule).

Hope you can find out what it is...

if the fuse blows after replacing then there is a short cicuit inside the set. most likely a diode has shorted in the power supply. check the bridge rectifiers for short and any transistor in the power supply.

Pioneer Pro-118 won't turn on

Take off back cover. The problem power board is to the right of the board where the power plug feeds into the TV. There is a large white fuse right bend the power plug. With a meter it read ok; about 8 inches deeper into the TV on that board was the resister next to two fuses. My 4 amp 125 volt fuse did not read on my meter. After replacing, it worked fine. Check all three fuses while you're in there.

Blowing Fuses

main rectifier could be shorted, main regulator could be shorted MOV surge supressor is probably shorted. MOV will be a little disc close to the power cord input (after fuse).

Fuse location on tv

a fuse is a small glass tube about 3/4" to 1". it is located near the end of the power cord inside the tv. it is located in the power board supply circuit. there are several reason why fuse blew up. 1. sudden surge current/voltage in your area 2. shorted in either power supply or horizontal deflection circuits. when replacing fuse, be sure to change it with the same value. but if after replacement has been done and the fuse blew again, there is a short in the circuit as stated in reason no. 2. refer to a qualified service technician if you are not inclined with this job. good luck!
