If this were a backlight problem, you probably wouldn't be able to see the Toshiba Splash Screen.
Do you see a little dash at the top of the screen? It sounds like your hard drive has lost its MBR (master boot record) or completely failed. The MBR tells the system where to find the operating system on the drive. Try finding a Windows OS install or upgrade disc or your Recovery disc. (For a Windows CD, you'll want to match your current OS.) Alternatively, find a LiveCD of a drive partitioning program (with a repair MBR feature). I've used the True Image and Paragon Partition Manager.

Try to boot from the optical drive. (You may need to access the BIOS to change the boot disc; press F2 after powering up the computer. If you get to the blank screen, then shut down and retry. It takes me several attempts to get into the BIOS.) If you can get the boot CD to work, try to repair the computer. Let me know if you need the details. It will depend on if you are using Windows media or a Partition repair Live CD.
You can also try to restore from your backup. (I hope you back up regularly.)

I hope this helps.

My toshiba laptop won't startup

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugsinto the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside thejack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have totake the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto themotherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

My toshiba L500D-00T laptop will boot but has a blank screen. How do I fix this?

Will not boot at all? Does it seem like it booted up except the screen is blank? Do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning?

If it seems like it booted up but the screen is dark, try this:

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop that houses the memory then remove one of thememory chips.

When i turned on switch dell vostro 230 it give no display and led colour is red

No Display, so does it seem like the computer booted up and is running except that the Display is black? Do you hear fans running, disk drive spinning, blinking lights or beeps?

I'm going to assume that in your case since you mentioned a red light that it is not booting up all the way. Therefore your problem is probably with the memory, the video card or some other motherboard issue.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory on the bottom of the laptop then remove one of thememory chips.

No power or lights to toshiba nb205-n210 netbook

Maybe your motherboard is fried. If you know for a fact that the power cord is good and that the DC Jack on the motherboard is good but nothing is happening then the board is just gone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S101 it was working well then it was left idle for one month then when i tried to update the screen went Blank/black screen, switch is on, no bios set up, no avg out,...

Dead PC

Possibly a RAM issue or errors on the hard drive stopping the display driver from working properly. Remove power sources, remove RAM and hard drive. See if you get a display when the power adapter is reconnected. If you do, remove power source and fit RAM, (if not motherboard may be faulty). Repeat and if still working, remove power, fit Hard Drive and boot again.
Assuming your OS is Windows Based;
Reboot and use safe mode run CHKDSK/F and when finished check the drivers.

Hope that helps.

Will not start the boot up process. Only the battery, ac, and power light on.

it might start but you may not see anything on your screen which may indicate a problem with your display, back light or video driver.
look for the hd light see if it is blinking, if it is blinking it is possible that the problem is the display.

do you get any image whatsoever at boot up? any message? any first screen? what does it say?

if in fact the pc does not boot up, it could be your motherboard, your cpu or your memory, if that's the case usually you should hear a secuence of beeps, do you hear any? what secuence?

can you try booting from a bootable cd? dowload knoppix and try to see if you can. if you it might be a problem with your hd.

post back with your findings.

No boot No fan noise no display but lights come on

Somethings has happened to your motherboard, CPU and/or hard drive somewhere along the line if it wont power up when you hit the power button and this would explain the reason for no activity. When a motherboard fails, no activity will happen at all, so Im putting my money on your motherboard being defect so take it in for a service and you may have to buy a new laptop since repairs can be costly.
