Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 Digital Camera

Importing to PC from camera

Have had success before. Now nothing will communicate. USB cable seems loose at PC connection. " No device detected"is message and nothing will import. Do I need to get a new cable?

Turns out part of the connection (for the cable) broke off inside .

That made it impossible to use it in any other USB port. Had to purchase a Card reader - that will circumvent the issue and still accomplish importing. Thanks

How do I install the ds 126071 0n my laptop?

Although the manual does not show how to connect to a computer, the system map shows how to use a mini USB cable to connect the camera to a PC. But before the camera will communicate with any PC or Laptop, it needs software.

From the Canon USA website you still can download the Zoombrowser EX software for free. It used to be the EOS Digital solution disk and the ArcSoft PhotoStudio Disk.
Before connecting the camera, install the software. Then when software (and driver) are installed, when connecting the camera, the software will start up and ask what to do. Like import the pictures to the computer.

To transfer Pictures to PC only connect to PC using USB Cable.

2.- restart your PC and check if work
If trouble continue

C170 trouble downloading

Make sure the camera is on and pc is selected on the camera screen when connected to the computer. You will need to have PC highlighted and select ok on the camera as this starts the camera and computer to communicate. Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. Check the System Tray (lower right corner beside the PC time) for Safely Remove Hardware. When you click on it, it should read "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive ?:" If you dont see that, then check the Device Manager to see if the camera is recognized as USB Mass Storage Device. The camera uses the driver usbstor.

I HAVE A SONY DIGI CAM MODEL DSC W-5. MY PC IS NOW UPGRADED WITH WINDOWS VISTA AND SINCE THEN IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD THE PICTURE TO PC. THE INSTALLATION CD ISSUED WITH CAMERA DOES NOT COMPITABLE...

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Insert the recording media containing the pictures into the camera.
  3. Depending on your camera, set the USB Connection or Transfer mode setting in the menu to the Mass Storage , Normal , or PTP .
  4. Use the USB cable supplied with the camera to connect the camera to the computer. IMPORTANT:
    • Connection through a USB hub or other USB device -- such as a printer or keyboard -- is not supported and cannot be guaranteed. Connect the camera directly to a USB port on the computer.
    • If the USB connection from the camera is not recognized by the computer, disconnect the USB cable and repeat steps 4 and 5 using a different USB Connection or Transfer mode setting. If the connection is still not recognized, further troubleshooting is available.

    NOTES:
    • The computer will automatically install the USB driver for the camera.
    • When the camera connection is established, an AutoPlay window will appear.

  5. In the AutoPlay window, click Import pictures .
  6. In the Importing Pictures and Videos window, click the Import button. NOTE: After the pictures have been imported, the Windows Photo Gallery window will appear and display thumbnails of the imported images.
If this doesn't work there is an updated driver available

Unable to import photos from Rebel XT to iphoto on mac..."busy"

Try changing the "communication" setting on the camera from "PC Computer" to "PTP"
Menu > Tools2 (wrench/hammer/2) Communication = Print/PTP

Possible incompatiblity with my XP system

Not much to add here, except I'd try another usb cable, a different usb port and a different pc if possible.. I've had a number of camera's to connect to pc's, all running xp & never had a problem. Also disconnect all other usb devices when testing. Also connect the camera to the pc, before turning on the camera. Good luck.
