Try another PC, see if it can see the drive. Hard drives seem to have about a 3 year lifespan, doesn't mean they can't last longer, I just wouldn't trust the drive to last much longer. I use Acronis Disk Director to check my hard drives and partitions.

I trie to turn my laptop on but all I get is a black screen

This looks like either a dead battery ( dead as in damage or worn out) or a motherboard issue. I would contact the manufacturer support and have them help you figure out what you options are.

My 2008 Mariner battery is going dead periodically...the light on the battery looks red after running awhile it looks greeen & red. Is this the battery or the alternator

if you have 12.5 volts at the battery, the battery should be ok. If it reads 14.5 volts when the engine is running, the alternotor should be ok.

Hi,

Looks like your LCD screen got some dead pixels.

My suggestion would be to bring that laptop to your nearest service center or technician and have them check the monitor.

Am afraid to tell you that most dead pixels are unrepairable, hope that only the connection on the LCD screen are at fault.

Happy to sove your problem!

Thakns for asking Fixya!

PC Dell desktop has light on CD-R/W drive but cd is not opening (files not read). No sound of whirling/movement in drive; is it dead?

Turn the unit off...
Look at the face of the CD/DVD drive for a small hole.
Find a Hat pin or large needle and insert in that hole.
You can straiten out a paper clip
You must be level and not off to any sides..
This will give you access to whatever disk is in drive and remove it.
Close the drive and restart the unit.
If all looks ok, try a new CD or DVD.
If the same problem comes back, disconnect the power and IDE cable in the rear of the drive and replace with the same.

DEAD

Make sure unit is not plugged in. Use a Volt-Ohm Meter, on Ohms setting, and see if you have connection to the fuse holder. Put one meter lead on the BLACK ac wire, test the ac plug with the other lead (both sides) One should read. Do the same with the WHITE ac wire. One should read.If you get readings on both sides then AC Cord is good. Next check the fuse holder for signs of heat or dis-coloration. If found replace fuse holder. Always remember just because a fuse looks good does not mean it is good, and also I have replaced a fuse with a NEW bad fuse. It happens. To be sure test with meter.
